Yes another induction thread....

So i'm getting induced sometime next week and i've been told as i'm already 2cm Dialated they may skip the pessary and go straight for bursting my waters as the start of the induction. They have not mentioned anything about the drip so not sure if i will have it also!?!?

I just really wanted to know what the differences are and what peoples experiences of both have been like.

I had a brilliant induction. Was also 2. Waters first then straight to drip. 7 hours from drip to baby. Was mobile (on the Ball). No pain relief.

I had pessary, waters then after some time, drip as wasn't progressing as fast as they'd like

I went through the whole induction process, maximum pessaries, rupture of membranes and the the drip. It took 24 hours, I did have an epidural but normal delivery at the end.

Ok, firstly I just wanted to say that it's your choice whether or not you are induced next week. That's something that's not always clear, but they are offering you induction, you don't have to take it.
Secondly, I was induced with my first, they went straight for breaking my waters but when that was done, because nothing happened they moved very quickly on to the drip - I think I only had an hour/hour and a half. It was a while ago and i think it was pushed along quickly because I was being induced for a fast foetal heart rate but it would be worth you asking them that question.
In the end, induction on the drip was fine, I was still able to be upright and mobile because they sorted remote monitoring for me. Laboured for just over two hours and gave birth standing up. Only needed gas and air, nice and easy.

My experience was similar to Kelly's, except it took 72 hours. All the pessaries, ARM then drip. It sounds horrible but to be honest, having gone through the pains from the pessaries for 3 days made me feel confident and certain enough to request an epidural as I hadn't been sure before. All worked out fine in the end!

I was induced 6 weeks agi with dc2. I was 2cm,they out pessasary in me which got me to 3. They popped my waters at 4.30 AM and was put on drop at 5.30 AM as nothing was happening. Baby way born at 5.55 AM. Completley free of medication. Definitley the beat birth I've had and wasn't as painful as DS1.

I have been told today that I am being induced at 8am tomorrow after coming in with reduced movements today for the third time. I'm 40+1 I had a sweep yesterday but they are keeping me in overnight tonight to see whether I go into labour naturally. Fingers crossed because I really wanted to avoid an induction all iv heard is horror stories but reading people's experiences on this thread seem quite positive!

I had an induction and it was fine. Started on the pills (not pessaries for some reason in Denmark), at 10am, labour gradually ramped up all day, was 1cm until about 4am the next morning, fully dilated around 8am and had the baby at 11.30am.
Took all the pain relief offered but it was never scary or anything other than an exciting if totally knackering ride. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for their replies! I know there are some horror stories out there but lovely to hear of inductions going well and quick.

Just to clarify i am totally 100% ok with being induced and at the moment am very excited about the whole thing (give it a few hours into labour and i'm sure i'll feel different).

Dede i hope everything goes well for you tomorrow please keep us updated! I have to wait for my induction so i'll be closer to 39 weeks as they are worried about c-section risk before then. Although lots of monitoring in the mean time!

Hiya am going to follow this and also update with my experience I'm being induced this Monday if I don't pop over the weekend!! Ahh scary and exciting!!

I was induced 6 weeks ago after my waters went with no labour. Just had the drip and was mobile the whole time with just gas and air at the very end. Wasn't the 'plan' but managed to keep calm (they key!!) and still had the delivery I wanted! Good luck!

Hey ladies I've had my first pessery and I've been cramping for about 2 hours did anyone else start that quickly ?

My waters burst on their own but contractions didn't follow so was told to go back to the hospital the following day to start the induction process. Turns out only my hind waters had gone, so they broke the rest, popped in a pessary and put me on the drip.
After 12 hours of being on the drip, I was still only 2-3cm dilated (I was 2cm when I went in to the hospital that morning) and barely contracting - by this point it was now approaching 48hrs since my fore-waters had gone and the risk of infection was high so I ended up with emergency c section.

My sister was induced and placed on the drip and also wound up having a c section!

I'm due again in 12 weeks and am adamant not to be induced as I swear that's why I needed the caesarean!
