People who have bled from low-lying placentas, how long did you bleed for?

Had a pretty big bleed (as some of you will know from my thread) on Friday morning at nearly 17 weeks. Baby and cervix were fine and it was disgnosed as being from my placenta which is low-lying. Was in hospital until midday Saturday. The bleed dwindled very quickly and by Sunday was just a little brown blood. Yesterday it virtually stopped, but today (the first day I was a bit more active again) I've had a bit more brown blood again. I'm back resting now, after going to the doc this afternoon - she had a look at the blood and checked the cervix and it's fine, and told me to rest up again (not to lie down all the time, but no normal activities) but didn't do a scan. I'm a bit worried now though, whether something could have happened to the baby I've thought I've felt it sporadically over the past few days, but nothing regular, so I can't rely on that to tell me it's OK. Any experiences? Is this normal? Thanks...

Hello,
I had something similar for my first PG< but it was kind of mild brown spotting, and of course I paniced and rushed to Drs, who confirmed, like you, the low lying placenta. But I was lucky, there wa no more bleeding, just that one day, so am not sure if my Dr was being his ultra cautious self, or if my taking everything extra slow from them on helped. Make sure your DP/DH knows he needs to do all the heavy/boring chores from now on, take it easy and try to relax, if you can.

yes, very worryong,, lots of bleeding, in terms of ofteness,,, in every week virtually from 5 mths onwards. Admitted for obs on ward every time bar one wnhe i was virtually hysterical at staying in again having only been discharged the day before.. They didnt like to do an internal after the 2nd bleed in case they made aggravated the bleeding - just in case the y dont do onw dont worry, but i did a few more u/s scans, than usual which was reassuring .
take it easy, and try not to get frustrated. They may suggest a c/s if your placenta doesnt move , apparently most of them do.

Hi Berolina.
My sil had this last year. Like pansypants, she was in virtually every week as well. It was very worrying but she had quite a few scans too and baby was fine every time.
She was told to rest but she has a dd too so it was difficult for her to keep her feet up.
Everything worked out fine and she now has the most gorgeous little boy.

Try to rest as much as you can and get family/friends to help out.

This happened to me at 16 weeks with my first dc. I bled heavily red blood for a few hours was scanned and baby was fine but placenta was low. Then around six days later I bled again but like you it was brown blood and not much they told me this was probably just old blood residue from the first bleed passing through. I wasn't kept in hospital or told to rest they said the placenta would more than likely move up eventually and it did. Please don't worry.
