Quick labour

Hi all I'm over half way through my second pregnancy and I'm starting to worry about not making it to the hospital. I'm 50 minutes away from the nearest hospital and my first pregnancy my whole labour was only 50 minutes. Went in three cm dilated and 40 minutes later pushed three times and she was out and I left am hour and a half later. I lived closer to the hospital at the time though. Now I'm panicking my daughter is nearly seven and my partner works night shift where he travels too. Does anyone know if they will induce me a week early. I can't have a home birth because I'm too far from the hospital and I'm scared anything is wrong with baby. Thanks x

You can’t have a home birth because you’re too far away? It’s your right to have one. Did s midwife tell you that?

I would ask them for advice given the circumstances last time. You may be better calling an ambulance rather than driving yourself in.

My friend had the same a very quick labour. She's pregnant again now and they have t's her to call an ambulance

Mine is about 45 minutes away! I was told to call an ambulance last pregnancy. It was during a snow and they said they'd likely have to send a helicopter air ambulance out. My midwife also wanted to stock my fridge with pain relief and such just in case. As it happens I was late anyway

I don't want a home birth as I'd have no support here. I live in a rural area and I need to be with medical staff incase my baby has everything wrong. My first daughter was born with a hole in her heart, a brain condition and nystagmus and they didn't detect any of it until she was three. Her conditions run in my family and the brain condition my daughter has could of been a very different story. I wouldn't feel safe having a home birth. I've been told to phone an ambulance but they've still got to get here and then take me back to the hospital and country roads and in january/ February isn't guaranteed a clear road. Xxx

@Kerriloulou I'm in the same boat in terms of location. I am 60 minutes from the nearest hospital. I'm due at Christmas and I've been advised to phone an ambulance if things progress very quickly. Someone also suggested having a home birthing kit (provided by midwife) at home so that ambulance crew/midwife can change plans if baby is too close to coming.

I'm not sure about early induction but there is no harm in asking. The worst they can say is no.

Thankyou for all the advice. I see the midwife today and will ask about a homepack just incase but definitely going to ask if induction is an option. I reckon il go late I was with my first so I will ask if it's a possibility from 39 weeks. I just don't want to be left on my own with my daughter one night in labour waiting for help and the baby to come xx
