Bleeding following 12 week scan - will it be ok?

I had my 12 week scan yesterday. I felt quite uncomfortable and that my stomach was pushed on quite hard, but I have nothing to compare it to

Since then I had very watery pink
Blood when I wiped, which turned to brown - then nothing

I have just got up for a wee and wee in the toilet is red and tissue is bright red when I wipe. Not loads, but I have put a pad in to monitor

Apparently is bad when you have lots of blood clots and strong abdominal pain. However call the midwife in the am.

In my opinion a scan shouldn’t cause bleeding or abdominal pain. Your baby is still quite small and well protected so there may be something else going on but I don’t think it’s to do with the scan. Maybe just coincidence? Bleeding in pregnancy is not uncommon. I had a bruise in my uterus and bleed quite a bit but my DD is nearly 4 now so there is hope!

Are you passing clots? Are you in a lot of pain?

I would ring for advice..u had a scan all was fine so try not to worry to much as pp states bleeding is common xxx

I had this about 14 weeks and it was absolutely fine. Definitely try to get another scan/appointment just so they can check where bleeding is coming from.

Thank you for your responses - no pain and no clots. I managed a few more hours sleep so will go and assess the situation now

I would call up as a scan shouldn't cause bleeding. Yes they can push in your stomach hard to get a good look at baby as baby at 12 weeks is tiny. Call up for reassuring if your worried

Nothing this morning, just a tiny smear of brown when wiping but nothing fresh.
I spoke to midwife after it first started and they said to keep an eye on it and if there's lots of red then go to gp or a & e

I was reading about breakthrough bleeding and was hoping it could be that, but I'll still keep an eye on it for now

I get spotting and some bleeding after scans. I had an abdominal one at 7 weeks with my current pregnancy (I'm 21 weeks) and had about 3 days of spotting after. If they are pushing hard on your uterus, it's possible for the cervix to get irritated if you have some cervical erosion (very normal in pregnancy) and that's what bleeds. It's the same reason it's not uncommon to get bleeding after a poo (from your vagina) in pregnancy. Even tiny irritations to the cervix can lead to spotting and bleeding as the blood vessels break easily, especially in early pregnancy. I had a follow up scan (after the spotting from the abdominal scan) and they did a vaginal scan (which then irritated my cervix even more), and that caused a further 2 weeks of spotting including several days of heavy bleeding. I had no clots or pain (I've had a miscarriage before so I knew all was fine) other than some abdominal tenderness from the scan. Like I said, I'm 21 weeks now with a healthy baby and though I had a few more instances of spotting late in 1st trimester, I've had none at all since about 13 weeks. Otherwise all very straightforward. So I wouldn't worry too much as long as it's stopped as it's very likely nothing as long as you continue to feel well.
