Has anyone had a huge first baby and a normal sized subsequent baby?

Ds was 11lbs 1oz when he was born. I'm pregnant again with dc2, and fully expecting this one to be huge (although I'm only 13 weeks so it's too early to tell yet).

I just wondered if anyone else had had a huge first baby but then went on to have a more regular sized baby? There was no reason for ds's size other than being 42 weeks and being from a tall family on both sides. I really can't see this one being any different!

My first was over 9 pounds and my second was under 6 pounds.

Bloody hell that's big.

DD1 was an average 7lb11 then DD2 was 3lb11 at thirty weeks.

My mam still goes on about my sister's birth (she was 11lb8) and that was 17 years ago. She wasn't brave enough to have another.

Congratulations Flowers

Mine wasn't as big as yours, but my 1st was 91st centile and my 2nd 25th. They were a lot more worried about my second being too small than my first being too big.

GlitteryFluff · 04/10/2017 19:29

Ooh very interested in this.
Ds was 11lb7.
Am now 26 weeks with dc2. Bump is measuring much too big at the moment but I am plus size anyway so figure that's normal but she's going to keep an eye on me. With Ds I apparently measured normal throughout so we wasn't expecting his weight. I'm trying to buy clothes for this baby but Ds went straight into 0-3 and I wasted so much newborn stuff so have only bought 0-3 again as assume this one will be a biggie too.

GlitteryFluff · 04/10/2017 19:31

I should say Ds was 15 days late but neither DH or I are tall so no idea where his size come from. He's very tall now at 3yo but slim and all in proportion. This baby will be a section sometime during 39th week so I'm assuming will be slightly smaller but only because baby will be here 3 weeks earlier.

EveMoneypenny · 04/10/2017 19:50

Very similar first baby here - DS1 was 11 lbs 9oz at 42 weeks, no reason identified other than DH and I are tall and prolonged pregnancy etc. Currently 37+5 with DS2 and three growth scans have estimated him to be on the 50th-60th percentile, around 8.5 lbs at 40 weeks. I'm hoping they're right...

Expectingbsbunumber2 · 04/10/2017 19:56

I've Been wondering this too. My first was 8lb 6oz. My second is measuring two weeks ahead so I have a feeling he is going to much bigger 🙈

Topsyloulou · 04/10/2017 20:39

Also been wondering about this. DS was 9lb9oz at 42 weeks. Bump always measured spot on, probably because he was back to back & hiding. Bump is also measuring spot on this time & in my last scan at 32 weeks she was tracking around 50th centile. Likely to have elcs at 39 weeks she should be smaller anyway but not really bought any newborn size clothes as DS was only in them 2 weeks as he was so long.

Moanyoldcow · 04/10/2017 20:39

Christ! These at some big babies! Mine was 11lb at 40 +5 and I thought that was big - you poor women.

I'm 20 weeks hoping for a normal sized one this time. I'll have a better idea when I have my anomaly scan next week of which centile line they are on.

I am very overweight and trying very hard to make sensible food choices (currently 6lb down from pre-pregnancy weight) so hopefully this one might be a nice tidy 9lb?

boopdoop · 04/10/2017 21:46

Glad you asked this as I was wondering too... DS1 was 10lb7oz, born at 40+12, by CS as he didn't move after a hour of pushing. No indication before that he was big until registrar who did CS mentioned it. Neither me or DH are particularly tall. He's now 3.5 years and on 50th centile.

Now 19 weeks so wondering what will happen with this one!

Did any of you get extra growth scans because of size of DC1?

EveMoneypenny · 21/10/2017 10:21

Well he was born on Thursday weighing 8 lbs 8 oz. Growth scans were spot on! It feels bizarre to have a normal size newborn...

Moanyoldcow · 21/10/2017 10:36

Congrats Eve!

My anomaly scan currently showed a very average sized baby so I'm crossing my fingers...

ChocolatePancake · 21/10/2017 11:17

Mine were both big babies (boys) but my mum had my brother (around 9lbs) and me (around 6.5lbs). Girls tend to be smaller babies in my family though, unsure if that's just a general thing or not?

Sidsreadingdiary · 21/10/2017 19:18

My Mum had a 9 Ib baby at 37 weeks and then a 3Ib baby at 35 weeks.

pericat · 21/10/2017 19:29

Ds1 was 9 lbs 6 ozs, ds2 was a much more manageable 7 lbs 6 ozs.

Cagliostro · 21/10/2017 19:36

DD1 8lb 4oz
DS 11lb 14oz
DD2 being induced tomorrow at 37 weeks as she is 5th centile, estimated under 6lb

SprogletsMum · 21/10/2017 19:40

My first 2 were normal size 7lb3 and 7lb then dc3 was 9lb. All through dc4s pregnancy he measured big, growth scans got him as being big. He felt big. Then he was born 6lb13 people had to go out and buy us new born clothes because I'd not bought any and he was in them for ages.

cinnamonwoman · 21/10/2017 20:03

My first was 10lbs 5oz on his due date. Second was 8lbs 13oz, again born on her due date (punctual babies!)
I could tell the difference in weight with my second, I just knew she wouldn't be big and growth scans confirmed it.
I'm 38 weeks with my third now and I know he won't be big either. Although his head is rather large!!Shock
