Just spoken to my midwife who says it sounds like I'm in the latent phase but it's my first baby so no idea!

My bump has been tight for about a week now so making it hard to tell if I'm contracting. I think I'm having contractions roughly every 8-10 mins according to my app and had a tiny bit of a show today as well.
Has anyone else had this and then gone into full labour ?

My pelvis hurts so much I can barely walk and sorry tmi but me and partner DTD and he said it felt really weird like abnormally tight and like something else was in there Confused haha anyone ?

Well I'd say if your midwife reckons you're in the latent phase you'll be fairly close. Usually means you're not dilated to 4cm yet. I'd say keep tracking the contractions as best you can and don't forget you can phone your midwife back if it starts to ramp up suddenly.

If it's hard to tell whether you are contracting or not then it's probably early days ....

When you have to brace yourself against the mantlepiece and hold your breathe until it passes then you're close!!

Thanks for replying.

It's so hard to track the contractions as no idea when bump is getting hard or not.
I've not been examined or anything so no idea if dilating or not. Really hoping this is the start I've been incredibly sick the whole time. Managed to remain very active though so here's hoping baby girl is on her way Grin

In my limited experience first labour can take a while, I had several days of contractions, a mix of mild ones and painful ones, sometimes every four or five minutes, sometimes none for an hour or two. On day four I lost my plug (the gift that just keeps giving), and I gave birth to DD on day six.

My only advice (and I wish I'd taken it) is to sleep as much as you're able to (not because the baby will keep you awake, but because birthing is hard work), and walk/keep upright as much as our can when you're awake. Let gravity and motion help as much as they can.

Good luck - SOON!

I second what @nightshade said - you'll know it's time to start making your way to the hospital when your contractions get to the stage where you're holding your breath and screwing up your face waiting for them to pass, they will be about every 10 min apart but painful. Well it was for me anyway.

Good luck!
