I'm in panic mode. On dates I'm 8 weeks on Tuesday . I had a spare clear blue digital I used this morning first wee ( didnt wee in night nor did I drink loads) and it's come up 2-3! So 4/5 weeks pregnant! It's been that for 3 weeks! I'm now panicking my levels are low. Has anyone has previous experience and it all been ok. I have read the tests aren't accurate but only by a week - surly this far along ( I'm pretty sure on dates) I should get a 3+ now as that's only 5 weeks and I'm 8!!!!

My dsis got so worried with these tests because the weeks were never right. Her pregnancy was all ok in the end.

Expectingbsbunumber2 · 01/10/2017 13:32

I used a clear blue digital and everything was right with me

Unfortunately this did happen to me (though I was more late 6 weeks at the time) and it did turn out to be a missed mc that happened at 5 weeks, so my levels never rose properly. I would try a few more tests though (which fmu held for at least 4 hours) before you panic just yet. It could just be a wonky test or your urine was too diluted. Me personally, I would be inclined to book in for a private scan if they keep coming up 2-3 but you know your dates are correct. Hope it was just a bit of a weird test.

Hi OP.
Same for me as @mindutopia, my levels stayed at 2-3 weeks. I had a feeling something wasn't right and when I hit 6.5 weeks I went for a scan and while I was there I started to bleed. Unfortunately the baby had never properly developed which is why my hormones stopped rising.
I did ask this question a lot at the time i went through it and got a lot more positive responses so keeping everything crossed for you.
I second that if I were you I'd book a private scan. Good luck x

Ok thanks I'm assuming I've lost it then

Can you get an early scan OP? I got a 2-3 weeks at 4 weeks and a handful of days - 10 full days later, at nearly 6 weeks, another 2-3 weeks. I have a history of mc so obviously instantly assumed the worst. Private early scan a couple of weeks later showed a happy wee blob, looking just right for dates (as did the next private scan a week later when I had a huge panic and ended up booking another one Blush ) so IME it doesn't always mean a mc. Also look up the hook effect - happened to me in a previous pregnancy; tests were far lighter at 8-9 weeks than they had been at 6 weeks. DD is 5 now.
Definitely try and get an early scan, either private or through GP. Good luck Flowers

Please don't assume anything off the back of these tests. They are notoriously unreliable and sold on a novelty basis. There used to be a helpful amazon review which broke all of the figures down but it's been removed as amazon US no longer sell these tests for some reason.

To summarise from memory - hCG levels by week vary massively between pregnancies, there's a huge range in what is normal and healthy, and low numbers can still indicate a perfectly good pregnancy. Sensitivity of pregnancy tests vary hugely. Urine tests are not a good way to measure quantitative data (how much), they are only good at measuring qualitatively (yes or no). The way that digital tests work is they have several urine strip tests at different sensitivities so they attempt to show a "how much" by getting a yes or no at different levels. Unfortunately this isn't very accurate because urine tests are too blunt a tool to measure this accurately, and also because some pregnancies are slower to reach the higher levels needed to trigger the later results on these tests, even though nothing is wrong.

If you want to know whether your pregnancy is viable the best way to tell is to have two blood tests done 48 hours apart and see what your hCG level is exactly and how much it is increasing. But they don't tend to do this on the NHS unless you've had previous miscarriages. I've no idea if you could pay privately to have it done. As others have mentioned at 8 weeks you should be able to see something on a scan so booking a private scan would give you more information, but you don't get scanned on the NHS unless you are having symptoms of miscarriage.

In short - don't give up hope just yet!

Thanks for everyone's advice - I can't help but think something is wrong. I've just taken it as my body knows it's not right - NHS won't scan till 12 weeks with no physical symptoms and can't afford a private one :-(

I've never used a digital test, I prefer the normal line tests. Could you get a few of these and compare the darkness of the line and see if its getting darker or lighter? I agree with having an early scan too so you will know either way. Hope everything is ok.

CL1982 · 01/10/2017 18:59

I second the poster above-they have been pulled from the States as so many people were worried by them. Absolutely book a private scan OP. Are you near Bath by any chance??? They have a walk in EPU so you could get down there tomorrow?

lulupregnant2 · 01/10/2017 19:07

I did a line test and it came up straight away and was quite dark. I'm in Bournemouth and you can only be refered to our epu and they only refer if you have physical symptoms like Bleeding. Scans here cost £100 private and I just don't have that money. Thanks for trying to reassure me though

They aren't great tests - have a Google and look at the concentration ranges to get each of the weeks readings.... of you still get a clear dark line on normal tests and haven't had any pain or bleeding then all is probably well. And yes to the hook effect - as concentrations get higher the tests go a bit awol. Fingers crossed your 12 week scan is all good

lulupregnant2 · 01/10/2017 21:06

Thankyou everyone. I'm seeing my gp Tuesday so hoping she will scan but with no symptoms to show anything is wrong I'm not hopeful. I have no pregnancy symptoms , tests that don't show high levels and I'm just negative about the whole thing. They do say sometimes when you know you just know and think that's the case. I appreciate everyone's support

Just say you had a bleed if your that concerned no point waiting till your 12 weeks to find out xx

sammy1988 · 29/04/2020 08:33

I know this is really old - but I wondered if anyone knows what happened here? Thank you!

Jov0151 · 05/05/2020 10:06

@sammy1988
I was wondering the exact same thing x
