Morning sickness coping techniques

I'm 6+5 and I think I'm dying from morning sickness and fatigue. I remember it being bad last time but it's so much harder this time with a toddler! Any coping techniques to make it any better? Not eating makes me feel ill, eating makes me feel ill, the only thing that doesn't make me feel ill is sleeping. Help!!! Ps this does end, right? Last time it did at 13 weeks but I can't even remember what life felt like before morning sickness and heartburn right now!

Remember that it WILL end.

Have you tried a ginger nut with a cup.of tea in bed before you even get up?

Also, little bits of carbs through the day: toast, etc.

LadyPug · 30/09/2017 22:25

Thanks 2cats I've completely gone off tea (usually my favourite!) but happy to try the ginger nuts, thank you! And thank you for carb advice!

Eat plain and often. White bread rolls with sliced chicken, a banana or a couple of plain crackers. You need to keep your blood sugar even. But nothing highly flavoured or too smelly. It's horrible. It will pass. Oh and glasses of cold milk.

Thank you babymama great advice and haven't tried milk!! Thank you :-)

Eating small amounts constantly worked for me; I kept rich tea biscuits in my handbag and would make sure I always had something in my tummy including eating one within minutes of getting up.
It feels relentless but when you look back it doesn’t seem so bad.

Notlostjustexploring · 30/09/2017 22:31

Del monte pure orange ice lollies. Cold and sharp and give a wee sugar boost.

Mostly just my body weight in white carbs. Chips, crisps, toast, biscuits....

And lots of sleep.

Smoothies are quite good too, mostly they taste almost as good coming back up as they did going down....(pregnancy - not my favourite time)

Stay hydrated as dehydration manes you feel even worse. Tiny sips of fluid as often as you can or ice lollies or ice cubes.

I couldn’t drink milk but could drink milk diluted with water which sounds awful but was easy to drink.

Rich tea finger biscuits were good to nibble on too.

Crisps! Not wildly healthy I know but better than nothing. I ate packets of bacon flavoured tubes...

LadyPug · 30/09/2017 22:36

This is amazing, thank you so much everyone! Ah I ate ice lollies last time and they were amazing! Had forgotten about them this time!

It was iced water for me. A pint glass full of ice cubes topped up with water and then gradually sip at it.

ThaiRedCurry · 30/09/2017 22:41

I'm also suffering Envy even water makes me want to be sick! Last time taking my folic acid at night and having a small but often nibble on ginger biscuits helped!

blackteasplease · 30/09/2017 22:42

The only thing that really helped me was sleep. Fiendishly hard to get the second time round.

There was a stage the first time when all I could eat was cured meat so I had to despite not being recommended.

Loosemoose28 · 30/09/2017 22:45

Ice lollies the cheap kiddies one in the supermarket are helping me.

White bread Angry which settles my stomach therefore stays in therefore adds calories.

Also for some reason yoghurt coated seriel bars seem to work for me when at work- living on them.

Flat ginger beer or this apple and ginger drink I found in sainsburies. Ginger biscuits do sod all though.

I've ordered some sea sickness bands as I've heard they can help. Should arrive this week. Thought it was worth a go.

mycatloveslego · 30/09/2017 22:52

Sea bands helped me so much I had to take them off because I was worried my symptoms had gone. Also eating small amounts pretty much constantly as the sickness was always worse when I was hungry. Plenty of sleep too and iced water. Oh, and congratulations!

LadyPug · 30/09/2017 22:56

Thank you everyone, this is so so helpful!

Sniffing peppermint oil takes away the nausea instantly for me!

LadyPug · 30/09/2017 22:59

Ooh amazing, will buy some of that also! Thank you Nick

Travel sickness bands worked for me. Don't know if was all in my head but I stoped feeling sick about half hour after I first put them on. I then used to put them on every day before getting out of bed .

Loosemoose28 · 30/09/2017 23:09

OMG just seen I wrote seriel bars instead of cereal bars-- I am horrified. My excuse sat on the bathroom floor looking at the loo debating if this a gag or vomit brewing.

LadyPug · 30/09/2017 23:21

Hehe don't worry loose I didn't even notice! Oh no, are you still experiencing sickness? How far along are you?

Wispygypsy · 30/09/2017 23:45

I could have written the original post myself! I'm 6 weeks and 5 days and I'm having all-day sickness and struggling to keep my toddler entertained! I feel like such a bad mum, but thank goodness for Cbeebies this last week!
I've been trying to eat snacks more frequently and drink water little and often and this has helped a little I think. I've started leaving crackers on my bedside table so I can eat 2 before getting my dd from her cot in the morning (run out tonight... typical!). Also bought a couple of different packets of cereal bars to take to work next week. Cleaning my teeth makes me gag every morning and night. I used to be a caffeine addict but now even the thought makes me nearly sick (even writing this).
I just feel so awful all the time I'm awake and I dont remember it being so bad last time. I had sea bands last time and didn't think they helped much, but having read this thread, I might get some more tomorrow and give them another go!
Good luck op, I hope it gets better for you soon Flowers
