Morning sickness coping techniques

I'm 6+5 and I think I'm dying from morning sickness and fatigue. I remember it being bad last time but it's so much harder this time with a toddler! Any coping techniques to make it any better? Not eating makes me feel ill, eating makes me feel ill, the only thing that doesn't make me feel ill is sleeping. Help!!! Ps this does end, right? Last time it did at 13 weeks but I can't even remember what life felt like before morning sickness and heartburn right now!

Refreshers and S&V crisps.

Also gingerbread men.

Wispygypsy · 30/09/2017 23:48

Have you developed superhero sense of smell? Gosh, my husband out put some brie in the fridge and I can't even go in there now! Confused

LadyPug · 30/09/2017 23:51

Hehe yes gypsy I can smell everything!!! And seriously, such a coffee addict here but even thinking of it makes me feel ill and as for the smell, it sends me over the edge!!!

Sugary version of Ribena by the bed for morning. You know you are going to be sick, if you drink a glass of it before you get up some of the sugars and fluid will go in and when it comes back up it is way better than bile or even plain water.

Sick for a full nine months and still remember every minute ## (he was worth it by the way Wink

Toasted white bread with butter.

That's literally all I could eat this time 'round till about 11 weeks.

millsbynight · 01/10/2017 07:02

Oh yes mrslant throwing up water was the worst! All warm. So gross. Don't miss that

MyHusbandIsNotADick · 01/10/2017 07:07

My dh used to bring me a glass of cold milk. I literally didn't move until I had it, then gently sat up and sipped it all.

On these days I didn't have morning sickness.

Something about staying still until I had it just worked. On the days DH left the house before I awoke, I still got up and tried the milk, but I had hideous morning sickness.

TakeMe2Insanity · 01/10/2017 07:17

Nothing really works for me food wise but sea sickness bands help take the edge off the nausea.

43percentburnt · 01/10/2017 07:30

Carbs. I found a jacket potato at lunch really helped with one pregnancy.

However with twins nothing helped. I could only drink hot chocolate, I nibbled bread, chips in the early days. Water was a no go. I would feel sick 24/7. I'd get up at 3am to vomit. I got admitted to hospital eventually and put on a drip! Hate to say it but the sick feeling didn't stop until week 33! I can't bear to drink hot chocolate now, reminds me of feeling crap!

Ameliablue · 01/10/2017 09:13

A lot of people find carbs help, but carbs make me worse so for me it's protein. I snack a lot on chicken, cashew nuts, sausages and cheese.

CatSneeze · 01/10/2017 09:21

A mug of hot chocolate (made with milk not water) would make me feel better for 10 blissful minutes.

LadyPug · 01/10/2017 09:48

Wow, thank you so much everyone!

I had very bad morning sickness until I was 20 weeks - my doctor advised me to eat dry toast (as butter made me sick) & on really bad days half a tin of soup every 2 hours, I mainly had chicken soup. It seemed to work pretty well for me. Also found drinking lemonade & eating non citrus fruits (pears, apples & grapes mainly) helped for a little sugar boost. Hope you feel better soon

NerrSnerr · 01/10/2017 10:03

Basically I didn't cope (but was sick for the whole of my pregnancy). Eat what you fancy, recommendations tend not to help as everyone is different. (after about 30 weeks of sickness I'd have people ask me if I had tried ginger nuts!)

The only thing that helped me (other than medication from the GP) was rest and lots of it. The more tired I was the more sick.

LadyPug · 01/10/2017 10:12

Thanks secondtimemother I will try these things! Thanks Nerr I'll try anything going! Ha! Although in saying that, I do feel awful if not rested enough so know I need more sleep and time out, so much harder with a toddler though isn't it?!

NerrSnerr · 01/10/2017 10:16

Yes, with my second getting rest was awful. We must have watched every Peppa Pig episode about 100 times when I was pregnant.

Lozmatoz · 01/10/2017 10:58

Vitamin B6. Saved me!

Ameliablue · 01/10/2017 14:23

Vitamins are also worth considering. I've heard a lot of people have worse sickness when taking pregnacare.

Olivelor · 01/10/2017 15:03

Morning sickness was really bad for me too. Absolutely nothing seemed to be working for me. I was feeling disgusted of food during the first 3 months and eventually had to be given a drip. Now at 6 months I feel so much better and good appetite. The sickness feeling will fade away with time eventually. Smile

amysaurus87 · 01/10/2017 15:15

I had no sickness for the first 10 weeks (I'm currently 11 weeks with my first) and all of a sudden sickness has arrived out of nowhere, I've had nausea and heaving but until now no actual vomiting.

I find sucking mints like polos and glacier mints really helps. I keep a huge glass of squash by my bed as well which I'll sip on before getting up.

Rich tea biscuits and Carrs Cheese Melt biscuits are saving me at the moment! I've found avoiding acidic foods is a good option which is a shame as I love apples but I just can't keep them down anymore!

lol2348 · 01/10/2017 17:38

I was super nauseous and was unable to keep down my meals. Here I entered the kitchen and nausea and vomiting started vigorously. But, finally I found a remedy that worked wonder and my sickness vanished. No to morning sickness tea was a lifesaver to me.

Hairgician · 01/10/2017 17:47

On the flat coke today as finding water too hard to take today. Haven't moved from sofa since coming home from hospital. Do having to help me up and downstairs.

Might attempt some creamed rice with tinned peach or pear chopped in. Find it easy on tummy when hungry but feel really sick.

Chocachoo · 01/10/2017 22:08

I can really recommend Mento mints, don't know why but they really eased the intensity of the nausea. And so quick and convenient to nibble on!

Hairgician · 02/10/2017 10:26

Ooh ditto on the mint mentos!! Don't know why but they really help.

squadronleader87 · 02/10/2017 11:15

I had a slice of white toast with butter and marmite every morning, along with a small cup of whole milk. Not sure why it worked but the balance of salt, sugar, fat seemed to settle my stomach enough for me to drive to work.

I'm not sure what would work as an alternative if you aren't a marmite fan!
