Couldn't do Nuchal test at scan!??

Hi, I had my scan last week and they said I was 13+4 weeks and the sonographer said she couldn't do the NT test because the baby wouldn't stop moving and it wouldn't get in the right position. She made me wait in the waiting room for half hour then she scanned again, but still couldn't do it. So I have to have the quad blood test done in a few weeks. She's made me so worried I really want to be re scanned and have the quad test just to be sure everything's ok, has anyone else experienced this? And will a blood test really be a good enough test ? I just feel like I want another scan so she can do the measurement and do blood tests. I cant stop worrying x

They can't do another test because it will be too late (I think they can only do it until 13wks6days). I had the blood test, it was fine, it's another way of doing the test.

NerrSnerr · 30/09/2017 11:50

They couldn't do it on either of mine so we had the bloods. In our trust it's not policy to rescan even if there is time.

The nuchal has to be done by 13+6 so they won't be able to re scan you.
The quad test I believe is slightly less accurate (around 80%) whereas the NT is more like 85%.
Neither are able to give you an accurate diagnosis.
I know it's worrying but the chance is very low and the follow up is the same if you do have a high chance result.
You can always look at a harmony test (sometimes called other things) if you are very worried. That has an accuracy of about 98-99% I think. It is quite expensive though.
It's not unusual for babies to misbehave at scans and that in itself isn't anything to worry about.

Thank you all for that, I wasn't aware that it's too late I thought I could still be scanned 🙈 I guess il just have to have the blood test done then, fingers crossed everything's ok, I no this is probably more conman than I think as baby's do tend to wriggle about a lot, I'm just worried I guess x

It's understandable to be worried, but try to focus on the fact the majority of babies are fine. You will get a result e.g. 1 in xxx and if you are still worried you can look at other options e.g. Harmony test.

DS wouldn't stay in the right place for the nuchal measurements so I had to have the quad test. Contemplated getting a NIPT (e.g. Harmony) done but didn't in the end.

Same thing happened with me, they did a blood test at 16 weeks.

mummy2b17 · 30/09/2017 20:46

Same happened to me. Had quad test at 15 weeks and results were fine Smile

Hi, I had my scan yesterday and had similar, baby was hiding in pelvis so they couldn't do the test. We are going back for the quad test in a few weeks.
We were reassured that the quad test is only marginally less accurate than the combined test, and the combined is easier because it can all be done at the same appointment. So try not to worry too much, there really isn't that much difference Smile

Macarena1980 · 30/09/2017 23:17

This happened to me at 12 week scan also, had the blood test at 16 weeks and just found out at 19 weeks yesterday that we're low risk. I was told that if it had have been high risk they would call me within a few days. It did make me worried as well and know it's easy to say... but try not to, get your blood test booked in and the time will fly in.

Also I kept telling myself that it was a good sign that baby was moving around a lot.

Xx

I had to have my bloods done too! This one is still just as wriggly now I'm 33 weeks so prepare for lots more of that! Weve struggled to get any good scan pictures haha

Ameliablue · 01/10/2017 09:16

Baby wouldn't cooperate at 12 well scan so I was booked in for another at 14 months which used different measurements, combined with a blood test.

Ameliablue · 01/10/2017 09:17

Weeks not months, that would be awful.

peachgreen · 01/10/2017 12:24

They don’t even offer the NT scan where I am so I just had the quad test and all was fine.

Chocachoo · 01/10/2017 22:12

Same happened to me! It's quite annoying to have to wait until 16 weeks to have any screening. Blood results on their own came out 1:100,000 (same as DC1 where I DID have the combined test) so it was no biggie in the end!
