Smell of DH during pregnancy

Has anyone else experienced this odd pregnancy symptom?
I'm currently 24 weeks into my second pregnancy and have started to find my DH emits a strong, musty, not particularly nice odour. I can even smell it straight away after he showers. I remember the same thing happened in the last pregnancy. Aside from this my sense of smell is not particularly heightened. Can't think of a good reason for this but it's quite off-putting and i don't really want to go near him. Feel sorry for the poor man!

My sense of smell has been outrageous this pregnancy, I have given my husband a complex, poor guy. Really hope it goes when baby is here 🙈

NotTheCoolMum · 29/09/2017 21:58

Yup! I couldn't bear DH near me for most of my pregnancy. Poor bastard. The extreme sense of smell covered the first and second trimester. Any smells at all made me heave at my worst. By the time it calmed down in the third trimester I was being kicked from the inside, increasingly uncomfortable and couldn't sleep well at night. So didn't want anyone touching me at all.

If he has even one or two drinks I can't stand him in the bed. We have had quite a few nights apart. He thinks I am being OTT but at 11 weeks it just makes me retch.

And then the nights he doesn't drink I can smell dinner (even if showered etc) on him. Poor guy. I love him loads but he makes me feel so ill Confused

Aw @Loosemoose28 sounds familiar, 2 cans tonight and bloody Slovakian bacon 😳😷. No spoke to him in disgust, ha. Will feel weird having him back in the bed after baby is here.

Unhappyyear1 · 29/09/2017 22:25

Yes in each pregnancy I got an aversion to DP smells. At times even my own children !

Loosemoose28 · 29/09/2017 22:26

I will tell him hes not alone Wink

Another here! I can't stand the smell of my oh even after he's washed/showered. Same with his breath even if he's done his teeth. I'm best left well alone at the moment haha

WheresMyTaco · 30/09/2017 07:40

Yes, I did. I wonder if there is a reason for it because I don't remember being horrified by friends or colleagues and Dh was particularly fastidious and clean

My husband used to smell like strong geraniums....kept me awake for hours at night.

Hairgician · 30/09/2017 10:15

Lol I had this first time round and same again now. Normally I like his natural smell (He doesn't use aftershave/smelly deodorants) and he's always clean, just can't bear his smell at the min. And while he doesn't have smelly breath i can smell food off him so makes me heave! God pregnancy does weird things to you!

AmyB1986 · 30/09/2017 11:27

I’m glad I’m not the only one who can’t bare the smell. It’s not a nasty smell but not nice all the same.
I can smell where DH has been around the house. He uses nice aftershave etc but I can still smell his natural odour. Even his clothes seem to smell of it after I’ve washed them. It’s worse when he’s had a shower and seems to linger in the bathroom prompting me to clean to get rid of it.
Not only Can I smell him but my hair seems to smell funny too. I’ve been washing my hair everyday because it has a funny smell. If I ask anyone else to have a sniff they can’t smell it but I can!
Hoping it goes away after bubs comes along

NiceCuppaTeaAndASitDown · 30/09/2017 11:35

I've gone the opposite way, I even love the smell of DH's (usually hideous) morning breath. Definitely down to hormones acting crazy

Adamsmom · 02/10/2017 20:21

I love mumsnet! It's lovely knowing other people are going through exactly the same experience as you!

DeadDoorpost · 02/10/2017 22:11

DH didnt smell too bad but my senses were incredibly heightened and I couldn't stand his smell for the first 16 weeks... so much so I threw up when he opened a can of tuna 2 rooms away. I'd never normally smell it unless I was there opening it myself.

My mum also had to move out the house because my dad apparently smelled so bad, and he's a very clean, very immaculate person.
