Help! I'm worried I've given myself listeria

Just ate some black lumpfish roe on a bagel with some cream cheese, then notice afterwards there was a tiny bit of mould in the jar (on the other side to where I scooped. So I wouldn't have actually eaten the mould itself).

What should I do?

I tried making myself throw it up, but couldn't, so am currently eating pineapple in the hope that the acid will kill anything off in my stomach.

If it's pasteurised I wouldn't have thought there was much risk, even if it's not your highly unlikely to get it from 1 occasion.

I had a bit of a scare with some goats cheese a few months back but was told by the microbiologist at the hospital (via my gp) that isolated incidents of eating something are very, very unlikely to cause listeriosis.

Listeriosis has flu like symptoms but you can only have a blood test for it when a fever is present as it required a blood culture. If you get any symptoms give your midwife a call but honestly it's so unlikely I wouldn't give it a second thought.

I worry about everything and even I couldn't muster up enough evidence after the goats cheese incident to stress too much!

Listeria is very rare in the uk. I think recent outbreaks have been traced to things like salad and butter. I don't recall seeing roe on the list. You will almost certainly be absolutely fine.

Thank you both. Feel a bit better now.

I've been so good about everything, if I damaged the baby now I'd never forgive myself. Sad
