Headaches, nosebleeds and dizziness

I've come on here because my doctors are no help whatsoever and I'm not too sure who the next person to call is.

I am 13 and half weeks pregnant with my first, but started suffering horrendous headaches, mainly behind my eyes. I first thought I just needed to get my eyes tested so I've booked in for this week, however I've started going dizzy and light headed frequently, and this morning I have suffered from a BAD nose bleed this is my first in my whole life!!
I rang my doctors to see whether I can get any advice/help, the next telephone/walk in appointment isn't till Monday. She told me to ring a number which is the emergency line for women who think they're having a miscarriage, abdominal pain or bleeding I felt like a right idiot ringing them for something like this
I'm not too sure whether this is just normal pregnancy symptoms or whether it is something I need to get an emergency appointment at my GP for, google is telling me all sorts!

All help welcomed! Blush

Have you had your blood results back from your 12w scan?

Just wondering as the dizziness could be a sign of anaemia. Personally I would get to the GP, as headaches and dizziness shouldn't be ignored.

I have exactly the same thing. I’m being tested for a urine infection and I’m going to see the midwives on Friday if I’m not feeling better by then. Ring your midwife and see what she thinks. I was told to up water and calories and see how that went.

As for nose bleeds, they’re common in pregnancy as you’re pumping more blood round your body or something. I’ve never had one before but I’ve had two since being pregnant. Can’t cope with them at all and have to lie down to recover!

@meltingmarshmallows - I haven't been told the results, so I am guessing everything should be ok. I am debating just making an emergency appt, so I can be 100% certain!

@AnUtterIdiot - I dont have my midwife's number, that's why I rang my GP to see whether they could give me a number to ring or help me out a little.

@cakesandphotos - I have upped how much water I drink in a day, just struggling with the eating side, never been much of a big eater so trying to make myself one is hard. I was just sat at my desk in work when it started blood everyewhere, had no idea what was going on!!!

Thank you for all advice, i'll try speaking to my midwife/GP ASAP. It feels as though my headaches going to turn into a migraine and I don't think I'll be able to cope if that happens!!!

Have you had your blood pressure checked?

Bumdishcloths · 27/09/2017 14:34

If you haven't already you need to get your blood pressure checked as a matter of urgency

Landy10 · 27/09/2017 14:43

Many pharmacies offer blood pressure checking by just walking in try and find one that does this as you can then have it checked today.

As for nosebleeds I had these in pregnancy was nearly everyday (some days multiple times) from I think about 10 weeks to c20ish weeks and then it got much better. Carry tissues EVERYWHERE (like even if you are going for a 15 min meeting at work). I learnt the hard way about this after it happening more than once on public transport and my tissues had run out. You can buy a tissue box size travel pack from boots (i.e. Not that tiny pack with 10 in it, but like a box size but in a plastic pack so takes up much less space) get one of them you'll be glad many times over.

Have you got your pregnancy notes (assuming you are UK based) there are loads of numbers in the front of that. One should be for the community midwife team who you call call to speak to re the headaches and dizziness.

Nose bleeds are a really common side effect of pregnancy. I had never had one before being pregnant with my DD.
