Gp offering early scan due to anxiety

Hi. I just wondered if anyone's gp has offered an early scanned just based on anxiety. I am 7 weeks today on dates and have a gp appointment to tell them I'm
Pregnant next week when I will be 8 weeks. I have had two years of hormone issues and the pregnancy was unexpected and I am convinced it's not a valid pregnancy and it won't turn into a baby. I have zero symptoms and where ever I look people are having nausea and sore boobs etc from earlier than 7 weeks and this just adds to my anxiety. I have had one successful pregnancy and she is now 4. I think the anxiety is just coming from two years of Health issues . I'm hoping my gp
Will refer me for a scan so I don't have to wait another 5 weeks. Has anyone's gp done that without a proper reason ie bleeding etc. I can't afford a scan privately but not sure if the gp will just tell me to wait. Thanks for reading.

I think it's unlikely that they'll offer you one unless you have a reason to be seen. For example, pain, bleeding or you're considered to be high risk for another reason.

Can you afford to pay for a private scan? If so it might be worth it. I understand how anxious you're feeling as I feel the same. 12 weeks is a long old wait!

I wouldn't be concerned about the lack of symptoms though. Perhaps you're lucky, or perhaps they'll come in full force in a few weeks!

My doctor wouldn't let me have an early scan for that reason - they said most mums feel the same anxiety. I explained I haven't been sleeping well because I worry too much, but they just said there's the option of a private scan!

It's frustrating but I see their point, it'd be a huge drain on resources if anyone anxious also had the option of early scans.

Without being rude- I think you need to either find a way of paying for a private scan or crack on until 12 weeks. I'm pretty sure the large majority of women feel like this and it's not finically viable nor are there the appointments for non medical appointments. Hence why there's a booming private scan trade.

I was offered an early scan because of 4 previous miscarriages. Even then it was only at 10 weeks so not much difference. We paid for a scan at 7 weeks which cost us £35 and was well worth it for the reassurance.

I was given an early scan due to feeling extra crap/ uncertainty about dates I was still bf toddler so no last period. 9wks 3days and twins! I think it's a bit of a postcode lottery tbh.

I had an early scan at 6w but that was for a suspected ectopic pregnancy (it wasn't, just really bad pain). So it's possible to confirm viability but at this stage that's really all they can do before 10/12w.

I was hugely anxious so I understand, but you won't get a scan for anxiety.

This is pretty common to feel like this, I don't think you can expect the NHS to pay. I also was totally terrified but accepted I needed to pay the £80 for a private scan.

I think you need to just wait or find funds to go private. It's very frustrating and upsetting for women who have reasons such as multiple previous losses etc to have to wait for a scan because somebody is getting it based on them not believing it. I hope everything turns out though! Good luck

I think you'll need to pay for a private scan. Problem is the day after the scan the anxiety comes back.

To be honest there's such pressure on NHS scans that even women with real problems such as early bleeding may well have to wait some time for a scan. So they're not going to increase those waiting times by scanning people with no problems.

Even when I was bleeding in early pregnancy I got one scan and even though I continued bleeding I didn't get any more.

I am 10w and also very anxious after a miscarriage in July.

I paid £70 for a private scan at 6 weeks and another £70 for another private scan at 9 weeks. I'm now holding out for nhs as that's when im 11+5.

Despite my mc and the fact I caught without having a period between, the midwife referred me to epu but when she called them they refused to scan me. They said it wasn't reason to be seen.

Good luck OP, I'd just go private as the NHS are very stretched

Over my way they won't refer for an early scan unless there is a specific issue (like bleeding) or you've have 3 previous miscarriages.

I'd also suggest trying to pay for a private scan. I was quite anxious and had a private scan which made me feel better (and was generally a nicer experience than my NHS scans too, because they're not having to rush)

I paid for a private scan for reassurance and it was pretty cheap, £50? Well worth it to help put your mind at ease a little.

Although I second what a PP said, if you don't deal with the underlying anxiety (or if you can't and only time will help), it returns pretty quickly.

For me the 12w NHS scan was the start of feeling a bit less anxious although I'm 32w and still having it, just about different things now.

Nothing more to add that the PP haven't said already. I agree with what's been said above, it's unlikely they'll offer you a scan for anxiety as probably half of pregnant women feel highly anxious about their pregnancies and so they pay for their own private scans due to the NHS being so stretched and not able to accomodate.
