Early pregnancy no heartbeat

Hi everyone,
I am pregnant with my first pregnancy and had an early scan today due to a pre-existing medical condition.
I had to have an internal scan which dated me at 6+2 which is what the GP had advised from the date of my LMP, with a gestational yolk sac, fetal pole however no detection of a heartbeat.
They have arranged for me to go back in a weeks time for a further scan advising that it is likely a missed miscarriage, however given I have had no bleeding not only do I feel shocked but also utterly confused, since online it varies with people saying you should see heartbeats any where from 6 weeks to 8 weeks.
Has anyone been in this situation and can shed any light please?

Hi lovely, sorry to hear this BUT don't lose hope. I went for a scan at 7+2 and the sonographer couldn't see a heartbeat but told me not to worry as she can't see anything else that indicates a miscarriage. And sure enough I now have a 6 month old dd xx

When I was very early with my son I bled, went for a scan and there was no heartbeat. They thought I was 7ish weeks.
I had to wait 2 weeks for a rescan where the tiniest dot with an even smaller flicker was found. I was earlier than first thought.
Rest of my pregnancy was fine as was my delivery.

It happened to me, a missed miscarriage. It's called that because there is no bleeding, everything is still in there. I was 12 weeks when I had my scan but it was only measuring 5/6. I, like you, had to wait a week to be rescanned. Unfortunately it hadn't grown and I still wasn't a heartbeat. But this may not necessarily happen to you, what dates might just be slightly wrong and your see your heartbeat next time.

I consoled myself at the time that my body was very good at holding onto babies! I'm now pregnant with my third child, so it's not the end of the world even though it might feel like it at the time.

I had a scan at around 6 weeks and several days where no heartbeat was detected. I went back at 8 weeks and it was there, now I have a 7 year old! Don't give up hope just yet, fingers crossed for you Flowers

It really could go either way, 6 weeks is still early enough for it not to be detected, I have known people to experience this and to go back a week later and everything be fine. At the same time I myself have experienced 2 missed miscarriages at 12 weeks, with absolutely no indication that anything was wrong - in fact I was still being very sick everyday Sad

Similar happened to me. I've had a previous miscarriage so had an early scan but no heart beat could be seen, I was around 6 weeks. I was devastated thinking the worst but went back a week later and there the heart beat was flickering away. I'm now 19 weeks pregnant Smile. All could be fine Flowers

I've got everything crossed for you OP. The wait for me was torture I am such a pessimist I just convinced myself it had to be worst case scenario. I didn't know how common it was for the dates to be wrong. And how crucial a week was!

Try and stay busy and look after yourself.

I had an internal scan at 6+1 due to previous ectopic. No heartbeat detected, although they were all very positive about it all, saying it was normal at that stage. 2 weeks later the heartbeat was there. Am now 37 weeks. Fingers crossed for you, the wait is horrible

Like other people I had an internal scan at 6+3 (and I knew when I ovulated so was sure of my dates). They couldn't see a heartbeat and I had to wait 2 weeks for a rescan. Longest 2 weeks ever and I'd convinced myself of the worst but all was fine and there was a strong heartbeat present. I really hope it works out well for you Flowers

I had early scan and no heartbeat and sadly when i went back the situation was the same and it was missed miscarriage.

Sorry to hear your news...it really is shocking.
Trying to remain positive but as you all say playing the waiting game is not the easiest.

I had a scan at 8 weeks & baby just looked like a tiny little bean couldn't see the heartbeat until he pressed the wand in slightly more so don't give up hope just yet its probably just too early!

Hi everyone,
I thought I would update you (as I hate reading these posts and never knowing the outcome!).
Sadly I did have a missed miscarriage and had the ERPC procedure.
It has been/is a difficult time but I hope that I will be lucky enough to conceive again and have a healthy baby in the future.

I think the problem with 6 weeks is that you might think you're 6 weeks based on last period and when you had sex (if you're even sure which session caused the pregnancy) but conception and implantation can vary by a number of days meaning your baby is actually only 5 +2 weeks for example. So you may not see a heartbeat in that case. I think that you are going to need to wait this one out unfortunately. But if it was me, id be in for another scan within 5 days if I had a decent idea of what day we'd had sex that resulted in the pregnancy.

Hugs. Flowers It is hard, but go easy on yourself and give yourself time to heal. I had a very similar experience back in April. No heartbeat at 8 weeks and baby measuring only 5 weeks. I had to have an ERPC as well. I got pregnant again the very next month and am now 22 weeks. It's been a smooth and straightforward pregnancy so far. Have faith. It can happen and it was incredibly healing, though the first few weeks after were really tough.

It’s possible that it’s too early to see a heartbeat. That’s why they’ve asked you to come back.

With a missed miscarriage there is no bleeding; that’s why it’s missed. It happened to me. I went for my 12 week scan and Foetus measured 6 weeks. I waited a week and was rescanned and nothing had changed. But my body was just holding on to everything. It was very sad, but I thought at least my body knew how to hold on to a baby. I had a d&c to remove everything.
