Low lying anterior placenta

28 weeks and it hadn't budged.
Got a scan in a couple of weeks to check again.
Just wondered if anyone has had this and the placenta has moved up?
Mine is partially covering my cervix from what I've been told.
If it doesn't move when do they make the call to do a c-section.
I just want to know now! I find the bot knowing and not being able to prepare so difficult!
I'm the only driver as dp is too unwell to drive right now and want to prepare if we are housebound.

I had this with my second baby, but mine did move.
I had a growth scan (unrealated prpblem) and they saw then - and were very surprised!) that my placenta had moved far enough upwards to allow for a safe, vaginal delivery.
DS was born at home with no problems at all, and placenta was delivered pretty quickly afterwards Smile

Mines posterior but as far as I know same guidelines. I'm having a scan at 32 weeks to check position then a consultant appointment to decide the way forward straight after.

My midwife said not to be surprised if they decide to rescan at 36 weeks to check again.

CS normally done at 39 weeks unless you go into labour prior obviously.

If you have any bleeding at all it changes time scales.

I know what you mean about wanting to know now!!

Has it moved a bit since your 20w scan. I can sympathise as I had total coverage at 30w and am booked in for a scan at 32w. It's seems forever to wait! I'm going for a private 4D scan on Saturday (which we were going to do anyway) and I am going to ask them to see if they can have a sneaky peek!

I think so.
They told me at 20 week it was low lying. Not how much though.
Then at 28 weeks the sonographer didn't give enough detail to the consultant so he didn't know if it had moved a bit or stayed the same but that it was partial coverage.

Sympathies to those waiting for answers too. Feels like such a long time!

Hope yours still has time to move up: I'm 22 weeks and waiting for the 28 week rescan. Mine is low and over my c section scar so they're concerned about placenta accreta. The sooner we can rule that out, the better I'll feel. If mine hasn't moved by 28 weeks I'll start panicking: they'll have to do an MRI to start assessing whether it's fused into the scar tissue.

I had a low lying posterior placenta diagnosed at 20 week scan, and it was encroaching on the cervix. At a 30 week growth scan it was still touching the cervix but when I went for another scan to check it at 32 weeks it had moved to 3.9cm away from cervix! So they can and do move. Plus yours is anterior so more likely to move. I'm now back on for a natural delivery with another scan at 36 weeks just to check how it's doing. Good luck!

KitKatCHA · 25/09/2017 20:26

Mine moved, I was being scanned every 2 weeks anyway for other issues but it started very low down and moved a bit at each scan until it was totally clear

Hi, Im going in tomorrow for a c section at 39 weeks with low lying anterior placenta! It was picked up by the consultant at my 20 week scan (I'm high risk for other reasons), it was partial PP, then at 32 weeks it was less than 2cm from OS and at 36 weeks it was less than 4cm from OS. He said anterior are more likely to move. My baby is breech, due to the placenta being in the way. If I hadn't got other factors involved, I think he said would have scanned again at 38 weeks to see if it had moved again and check baby's position, if a vaginal birth was preferred.

At the 32 week scan I was due to have c section at 38 weeks but I have had no bleeding so pushed it back to 39 weeks, at my 36 week scan. I was booked in after that scan. Both at the 32 and 36 scans I had internal and abdominal scans.

Hope that helps a bit.

Thanks everyone.
so it really is a play it by ear sort of thing and just see what happens.
Will just have to be patient and hope for the best!
Good luck to everyone expecting :)

Good luck, Twelvty! Hope all goes well.

Mine was low lying but by 28 week scan mine had moved so happy days 😀

EveMoneypenny · 26/09/2017 11:17

I had this, and also had a previous c section so was concerned about placenta accreta. Mine was touching but not covering the cervix at 20 weeks, less than 2cm away at 28 weeks and about 3cm away at 32 weeks. I was then sent for a scan with a consultant at 33 weeks who said it wasn't actually considered low any more. A transverse baby and not sufficiently full bladder at the 28 and 32 week scans apparently would have made it look lower than it was. I'm back for another growth scan on Thursday at 36+6 so I hope they still agree with that assessment!
