i'm only 31 weeks pregnant on monday coming but litterally overnight my boobs have gone rock hard and lumpy and are leaking. Should i worry or is this notmal??

I never had this first time round and definitely not this early.

Anyone else had this or know if it is right or not.

had leaky boobs from about 20 weeks with dd.... used to swamp the bed every night

madmumNika · 06/04/2007 18:52

I had leaky boobs from 16 weeks with DS (!!!) and it started again at about 17 weeks with my current pregnancy, although not as bad as last time where every night I would have to wear pads!!

Apparently 16 weeks is about the earliest this can happen, so 31 weeks is absolutely fine!! It varies enormously amongst women & pregnancies...some don't get this at all!

So don't worry it is normal and nothing to worry about... xxx

lazyemma · 06/04/2007 18:54

leaky boobs = not in the least bit TMI. And quite normal at 31 weeks, from what I hear.

lulumama · 06/04/2007 18:55

you'll have to do better than that to be TMI!!

had it in both pregnancies, from 20 weeks or so....sleep in a bra with breast pads, saves on the laundry !

EdieMcredie · 06/04/2007 20:05

So how does it feel? Today I have really painful boobs (more than normal) and they are hot and hard. Im 17 weeks. Could this be the milk starting to come in? My nipples look white!

EdieMcredie · 06/04/2007 20:06

(just the very tips of them, the actual nipples are very dark)

madmumNika · 06/04/2007 20:28

EddieM, it could be! Usually leaking begins at nighttime when you're asleep, you'll see the marks on your nighty/PJs or sheets- as at night your hormones reach their peaks. But I also find sometimes if I'm feeling emotional/protective mine will spot a little in the daytime, thankfully though nothing like the floods at nighttime, or the floods when I was actually breastfeeding!!

My boobs felt even harder/more engorged when my milk really came in after DS was born...this is just a taster during pregnancy!! I think it's kind of like your body practising/getting prepared for the 'real' thing, and I might be wrong but my leaking milk doesn't seem like colostrum and doesn't sting like colostrum does...(sorry not to scare you- it's not that sore!!)... just seems like the very watery foremilk....

Does anyone know what 'type' of milk is leaked while pregnant?

EdieMcredie · 06/04/2007 20:55

Oooh exciting! (Yeah im sure ill still be saying that when the bed sheets/nightclothes are wet!)

hollyandtheeasterbunny · 07/04/2007 22:10

Hi nannyjo! Hope all is well. I have slightly leaky boobs too, started off as watery, now is bright orange!! Breast pads at the ready, that stuff stains!

nannyjo · 07/04/2007 23:34

mine is very thick and bright yellowish!! but bloomin' painful. Poor DS can't understand why i'm wincing when he cuddles me

Well I have started producing if that is the word, no great problems yet, am only 15 weeks gone, but there is definite leakage if squeezed

Princesspowersparkle · 08/04/2007 18:52

I started producing at around 18 weeks and this morning was the first morning I woke up with patches on my PJs! 31 Weeks is absolutely fine!

Bodkin · 09/04/2007 03:22

Think I started leaking at about 30 weeks when pg with DD. I remember sitting up in bed one morning and announcing to DP "The milk bar is OPEN!" Am 26 weeks this time and am starting to notice a tiny bit of leakage.

DivaSkyChick · 09/04/2007 08:11

Is there any evidence that early production helps / hinders breast feeding? I think (pain in the butt as it may be) that if I started leaking now I'd feel better about my odds of producing milk later...

If you didn't leak at all, did you have an easy or hard time breast feeding?

YAY! One more think to worry about!

charNbump · 09/04/2007 09:33

i had leaky boobs from about 26 weeks and been wearing breast pads ever since (sigh).........

LUCIA22 · 11/04/2007 13:07

I am 36weeks and havent had any signs of leakeage at all, should I be worried?

MKG · 11/04/2007 14:06

In my first pregnancy I didn't leak at all, but in this one I started at 19 weeks am 33+4 now.
