Baby Shows When Pregnant

Hey guys,

New on here and current 14 weeks pg. Can anyone advise whether it's worth going to a baby show to get some good deals? There's one this weekend not too far from us in Manc and not sure whether to go or not.

Really want to save £££ but still uncertain whether we should wait a little longer before buying much???

I've never been to one, but I strongly suspect the net effect would be for you to end up buying loads of crap you didn't need rather than saving money. Newborns really need very little and companies shamelessly market to and play on the insecurities of first time parents to make you think all this overpriced rubbish is "essential".

Ps. If you really want to save £££ I would recommend making a bare-bones list based on advice on here and haunting your local buy/sell and baby Nearly New sales instead :) people are always selling baby stuff and it will cost you a fraction of new.

I went and got a very good deal on my buggy was about 750 quids worth for 400. So definately worth it. And DS is now 2.5 and I'm still using it!

Do you have to pay to go in? I'd just want to go for freebies. If you don't mind second hand people are alway selling really good buggies and other baby things online for cheap.

Good time to buy for your little one. I think it is right time for you. Go for it. I was doing job during this time period. So I can't enjoy it. Most of things for my cutie was done by mother in law. I really missed that time period. I had not so much time to go for it. I hardly but 2 or 3 stuffs by myself. Mostly I saw that people start it in 6 month. because in 6 month you are confirmed with the gender. My sister also started it in 6 after confirming the gender. He had the baby boy. It is the best time for you to save money for the future. In future, may be you need more things which you don't know at this time.

It's £9pp to get in.

I don't mind some second hand stuff, but I do have my heart set on a new pram and cot.

Think I'll do some research first to make sure we don't get too sucked in.

I'm going to the one in London at the end of October when I will be just after 20 weeks pregnant.

I have a small list of bits I need and will see if I can get those at a good price but I'm mostly going to look at prams and test them all out under one roof as well as potentially bagging a bargain on one as I've heard some really good discounts can be offered.

I also think it'll be nice to get myself and DH in the baby-mood.

Definitely go I went to the one in Birmingham I think I was around 14 weeks too I'm so glad we did. We got all our main stuff pushchair, car seat, crib, rocker and loads more we saved a couple of hundred pounds. There's lots of good deals and plus you get loads and loads of freebies when your walking around!! Iv heard the Manchester one is very good! Enjoy :)

Oh by the way where comfy shoes and take some food and drinks with you... it's a long day lol

I went to the one in London when I was pregnant with dc5. Was brilliant, got a few freebies and treated myself to a new changing bag and some bibs. I tried out loads of buggies and then went home and bought the one I wanted 2nd hand on eBay. You don't need to spend loads and it was a fun day out.

I went to one in Dublin with my sister when I was 12 weeks- I didn't buy anything, but it was a good day out.

If you go in with your eyes open and don't get convinced into thinking you need a €150 leather nappy bag etc then it's worthwhile to pick up vouchers etc that you can use outside of the "show" environment when you've had a chance to think if you really need something.

They are amazing!... but
Make a list of the things you really want before you go and take a budget with you!... grab as many freebies as you can especially bottles etc

These shows are great for offers and deals! I have been to 2 in my pregnancy so far and am possibly considering a 3rd before i'm due (27th October)

I'm going to the Manchester one tomorrow with OH and a friend who's been to one when she was pregnant and got a really good deal on her pram and a few other bits. Plus you get some decent freebies so I've been told.

I'm sold!! I'm hopefully going to the London Olympia one next month. Need to find a friend to go with as it's dh's idea of hell!
