Penicillin in pregnancy

I've got tonsillitis and the doctors just prescribed my penicillin. I know I have to take it as surely worse to let infection carry on but am feeling really tearful about taking it and risking anything at all happening to the baby Sad

I'm 21 weeks. Has anyone taken antibiotics in pregnancy and had no problems?

I've taken them before with no problems. You and baby will be fine.
Hope you feel better soon!

Loads of women have taken antibiotics in pregnancy and been fine.

I had to take two courses of penicillin (Flucloxacillin) when I was 8/9 weeks to clear up a nasty bout of cellulitis. It was perfectly safe to take and I figured if I didn't take it, I'd only get more poorly which would be bad for the baby.

I had no problems at all. Be kind to yourself xxx

You are not risking anything happening to the baby by taking penicillin ... it is however not good for baby in utero to have you ill

Thanks all, please excuse my drama queen moment! I think the hormones got the better of me. Thanks for sharing your stories, this is very reassuring. I'll take them knowing I'm doing the right thing and will be putting my feet up and leaving everything to DH this evening!

Yes absolutely. I had peneciliin based antibiotics during pregnancy (about 3-4 times).
Beware they can cause... Thrush Blush

Oh really thanks Silly! I'll be on the look out, I've got some canesten anyway as I've had a mild bout this pregnancy already. The joys!
