Bloody show (I think) at 39 weeks - do I bother telling the midwives? Is labour imminent?

Didn't have this with my first, so not sure what to do! I've had some light bleeding since having sex this morning. It's pinkish red and with some tiny clots.

After googling I think it must be a 'bloody show'. Should I check with the midwife or not bother them with it?

I'm really hoping labour isn't very imminent. I'll be home birthing, and I'm just trying to get over a cold, take care of my 4 year old who has a fever, and avoid a Jewish holiday (Rosh Hashanah) which starts tomorrow, and during which my favourite midwife isn't available to come out to me :-(

(In your experience, is labour imminent? No other signs except a feeling of heaviness)

You don't need to tell your midwife about a show. I'd imagine you'd just need to tell them when you having 3 contractions in 10 minutes or if your waters break before that point. It can be weeks after a show before labour starts.

Telling your midwife won't speed up or slow anything down! It'll come when it comes. I didn't tell my midwife when I had a show, took a couple of days for dc2 to appear.

I had my show on the Thursday and nothing much happened till the Monday when I was induced! DS not born till late the following Wednesday, so labour wasn't imminent for me. All the best!

Oh my induction was booked in anyway as I was 41+5, nothing to do with the show

Thank you, this is really reassuring! We are all ill with this cold and it would be so much nicer to get over it before going into labour -- and I'd love the nice midwife to be the person who comes out...

Having sex can cause a little blood, as my mw sai "what gets em in, gets em out" Wink

My real contractions were started off after my 'show' both times. Keep us posted Smile

I had a show and still had to be induced two weeks overdue.
