Dark brown discharge during early pregnancy

Hi,

I am new to Mumsnet and I have recently found out I am pregnant with my first baby (hurray!).

The thing is, I'd had spotting for 2 weeks before I did a test and the only reason I did one was to rule out pregnancy because I thought there must be another cause for the spotting. I was surprised when I got 5 positive results on home pregnancy tests.

I think I am 5 weeks going off NHS online sources which means I have been spotting for 3 weeks of my pregnancy and I am driving myself mad wondering if this is okay.

I'm not in any pain and there is no red blood. I have sore breasts, fatigue and dizziness so the rest of the early pregnancy symptoms are there, but like all new expectant mums, I'm finding it unbearable waiting for my first midwife appointment.

I would greatly appreciate any help or advice anyone can give!

Thanks.

I had this several times in the first few weeks and called the midwife about it as I was a worrier. She said it was completely normal, and to only worry if there is red blood or significant change in volume of the brown discharge.

Congratulations!

I had brown discharge with both my pregnancies, from before I found out I was pregnant til about 16-20 weeks. It was from bruises in my womb that the eggs had caused when burrowing in, an theyre now 5 and 2. If your worried at all go see you GP and theyll probably refer you to the EPU for a scan or do blood tests. Flowers

I've had dark brown spotting in both pregnancies. One was a miscarriage and one was implantation bleeding. I'm 24 weeks now. You really cannot tell. Go to the EPAU.

Thanks for your replies. I went to the EPU just in case and had blood tests and a vaginal exam.

My HCG was over 1000 and I have to go back tomorrow night for another test to see if it's increased. Apparently my cervix is closed and that's a reassuring sign!

Hello, I am in a similar position so thought I would reply, I am going back to EPU again today (third time) for more bloods to check the hcg has increased. It did the second time so have everything crossed! If it is increasing then the nurse said they will book me in for an early scan. Hope all goes well for you. I am relying on these threads for reassurance/advice!
