Buttock pain

I'm 17 weeks and have been experiencing aching pain in my buttocks. Uncomfortable to sit down for too long and it sometimes twinges underneath and at the top of my legs. Could this be sciatica? Any tips to ease it?

Could be stretching pains. Does it feel a bit like a stitch?

No, feels bruised. Like I've fallen over and landed on my bum!!

Have a read of the NHS information about Pelvic Girdle Pain and see if that sounds like what your experiencing.

Go to your GP, get referred to physio. Or pay privately as much quicker. Sounds like pelvic girdle pain.

Hi- I'm 38 weeks now and have buttock pain on and off since about week 15 on mainly my left side. Thought it was siatica too but was never sure. Midwife just said itncan be 'one of those pregnancy things'. Funnily enough- I am currently experiencing a very achy left buttock that is keeping me awake! Hope you feel better soon!

I had this really bay in my first pregnancy and mildly in my second. I went to a physio group which was great. They said loads of it stems from the fact that all your ligaments loosen up to accommodate the baby. During pregnancy you must do things with your posture that you should normally do, but don't. So sit symmetrically, not cross legged. Stand straight not bearing all the weight on one side. Wear supportive shoes.

There will be an NHS pamphlet online- I think pp is right about it being called pelvic girdle pain. Once you start being more aware of how you sit etc you can really improve it.
