Antenatal classes - too much choice!

Hi everyone

We are really lucky in our area that there are tons of antenatal classes on offer. Only trouble is that I've no idea which one(s) are worth doing! Choosing between: hypnobirthing, daisy birthing, pregnancy yoga, pregnancy pilates and NCT.

What are others doing/what do you recommend? I'm terrified of labour and want to be as prepared as possible, so happy to do 2 or 3 different courses if they work well together.

Thanks in advance 😊

I did NCT and liked it but actually I think hypnobirthing would have been more practical.

I've signed up to the NCT and have joined pregnancy yoga. I've heard hypnobirthing is good if you are nervous but no knowledge myself. Also on the list for the NHS classes as they are free and I'm giving birth in hospital.

I teach Hypnobirthing so I'm biased, but I often teach couples who have done NCT too and I think the two go really well together. NCT is fab for meeting people and general information, then a good hypnobirthing course (shop around as classes differ from teacher to teacher - a good teacher should be happy to have a chat on the phone before you commit) will give you tons of practical tips and information. It often reinforces the NCT knowledge too which means it goes in better!

My first port of call though would be to buy The Positive Birth Book. I recommend it to all of my clients and cannot speak too highly of it!

If it's labour you're worried about most I while-heartedly recommend Daisy Birthing, much cheaper than NCT and the main focus is on labour. I've just finished my 6 week course and so, so glad I did. I can honestly say I went from feeling terrified about the idea of labour to feeling calm, prepared and excited! The classes have 3 components- pregnancy yoga, education re labour and relaxation so I always left feeling lovely and calm- DH noticed a positive difference in my mood every time I came home! Hope you fine the class that's right for you OP 😊 xx

Another vote for Daisy Birthing, I've even booked on to a second course to take me pretty much up to due date I love it so much. I pretty much echo what mummabubs said about the classes, they are great xx
