Eating habits

Background: this is my first pregnancy, suffer from HG (hyperemesis) so am on ondansetron to help keep food down, 30+5 weeks, and no cravings throughout the pregnancy.

Has anyone else found that they've had odd eating habits/patters throughout the pregnancy? Because of the HG I barely ate anything in the first 14-17 weeks but as the tablets kicked in and helped me keep food down, I've been able to get back to eating more regularly and healthily, but will occasionally snack if I feel like it have a lot of food aversions atm too so tastes change weekly).
Only I've noticed that I'll go through stages of not feeling hungry at all and struggling to eat, and then feeling hungry all the time for a few weeks. I'm currently in an in-between stage, but was wondering if this was normal? Baby is growing at a normal rate so I've got no concerns there, but it does make my DH worry sometimes...

I don't have HG and haven't had sickness since 13 weeks ish, but definitely still have a low appetite at 37 weeks. I've just taken the view that as long as I'm eating something it doesn't matter too much what it is. I've been eating mainly grapes, cheese, cereal, veggi sausage rolls and strawberries. In varying quantities and Since January! Baby is fine!

My dad always asks if I'm eating enough but some days it's a real struggle. Today has been a hungry day but I know that could change tomorrow. I've lost weight during the pregnancy (not related to the HG as it's been later on) so I guess I've just been concerned.

Sorry to change the subject, slightly, are you still taking odansetron? I only ask ASI. 24 weeks, have been taking since 9 weeks and just wondered if anyone else was taking them long-term. I have had a few attempts at trying to stop (only on 1x 4mg) but I just feel so dreadful, I soon crack and take them again. Have you experienced that?

This is pretty normal I would say? I have days when I'm so hungry and other days when I got. Feel overly hungry but still eat obviously,

Hi @DeadDoorpost
Like you I've got HG and didn't eat a thing for the first 14-17 weeks. I am still not back to my pre pregnancy weight. I have been having binge days where I'll eat everything and anything then I'll have days when I have no appetite at all and have to force myself to eat. I've also been eating and craving a lot of junk food. I think it's normal for HG suffers to have an odd eating pattern. I eat what I want when I want. I think you'll be fine. It's just such a relief to be able to eat anything after the trauma of HG.

Sometimes I felt really full and that I couldn't eat more than a quarter or third of a meal before feeling painfully full which I think was when baby was going through a growth spurt as I felt my tummy was being pushed up then other times I was so hungry I couldn't think of anything else. I think it can depend on what your baby needs at different times too in my opinion

DeadDoorpost · 16/09/2017 10:33

BELLAARA yeah I'm still on them at 30 weeks and know women who have been on the for the whole duration of their pregnancies. I've tried not taking them but like you I feel so awful when I don't there's no point in stopping as I can't eat anything without constantly feeling like I'm about to throw it back up.

Expecting I think I'm just glad to hear it's a normal thing. I'm maybe more worried because it's my first so reassurance is nice ☺

thingymaboob Yeah, I'm really looking forward to not being pregnant again just to be able to go back to normal. I still haven't reached my pre pregnancy weight either but I'm not really wanting to get back there so... It's just a pain when it comes to foods as I barely feel like there's something I want to snack on.
user yeah, I have also notices the when the baby is sat in a particular way it's easier to way standing rather than sat down as he feels like he's pushing against my stomach when sat down. Dinner takes forever to eat now.

Exactly the same as thingymaboob
Suffering from HG, didn't eat anything til nearly 20 weeks, and go through binge days now where I crave junk, or not wanting to eat or drink at all. Guessing it's all part of HG and eating when you can unfortunately 😞
