Line getting weaker

I just did a test (after having a positive on Tuesday) but the positive line took ages to come up, negative came up immediately then positive came up about 3 mins later but really faded and not as strong as previously (although different test brand), is this a bad sign?

Any advice appreciated as I'm a bit nervous about it!

You can't really tell unless you do a few on consecutive days with the same brand. Hcg should double every 48 hours so the line should get stronger but obviously there are things like how concentrated your urine is that can affect how dark the line is in the early days.

It's hard to wait and see but unfortunately that's all you can do. I had a line that got weaker and unfortunately it did end in miscarriage. I hope you have a better outcome. Just test every other day for a week at the same time - you can get super cheap test strips from amazon.

I've not got any experience of strong then weak lines but it could be that the two different brands are the cause. I did however always have really faint lines that only show up clearer now that they've been sat there for 6 months (no idea why I kept them, but I forgot about them for ages and suddenly came across them again). My result also took the 3 mins they recommend waiting to show up so in that respect it's not unnatural.

LadyPug · 15/09/2017 09:45

Thank you, I'm so worried it's a miscarriage :-(

stop testing. In the nicest possible way, it's going to be a long nine months if you're panicking already.

LadyPug · 15/09/2017 10:13

Thanks Pottering, I just don't feel pregnant! I guess I just wait now? I don't want to see the midwife but not be pregnant!

You can always get a test done with the GP before you book a midwife appointment (I had to let my Dr know I was pregnant so they could sort it out). It will also help put your mind at rest. But if you've recently tested, wait another week if you can to see. But let your Dr know you think you're pregnant.

LadyPug · 15/09/2017 12:17

Thanks DeadDoorPost Will the doctor do a urine or blood test?

I had a bfp on Tuesday with a FRER then took a Superdrug test on Wednesday, still faint positive, then Thursday I took another test (clear blue) faint positive then this morning I took a Poundland test and it took a few mins for positive to show and it was very weak so I stressed out. I've now taken another FRER and it came up bfp instantly and stronger than my Tuesday FRER. I'm driving myself nuts! Haven't called doctor yet as so early 4+4

The dr won't test you at all. If you've got a positive hpt result you're pregnant. I always though it was a bit weird they just took your word for it but they do.

AssassinatedBeauty · 15/09/2017 12:27

Stop testing! It's impossible to compare as it depends on the sensitivity of the brand and the concentration of your wee. If you have no symptoms or reasons to suspect a miscarriage then you're just torturing yourself. This stage is always a bit odd, as you know you're pregnant but in the very early stages you don't necessarily feel pregnant.

FourForYouGlenCoco · 15/09/2017 12:28

Those cheap tests are rubbish. You really can't compare line strength using different tests. If your FRER was stronger than the last one, that's a good sign. I personally wouldn't bother with testing at GPs, etc. If I were you I'd wait a week or so and then get a referral straight to the midwife - you normally have your first appt around 8 weeks so you have heaps of time yet.

FourForYouGlenCoco · 15/09/2017 12:30

Just to illustrate - these tests were taken on the same day, with the same wee. Barely there on one, very obvious on the other! And I'm now nearly 9 weeks.

Thank you everyone, this is so helpful!

Ps wow that really illustrates it to me FourYouGlen I stupidly googled it and read loads of miscarriage stories. Going to stop testing now and just book doctor and follow the route

Ok from two FRERs, one stronger taken after, I think you shouldn't panic. The cheaper ones are not as good. I remember with ds it came up on a clear blue digital first, then a frer, and only after 4 or so days on the Cheapies.
Good luck (and congratulations:) )

LadyPug · 15/09/2017 17:21

Thank you! :-)

@PotteringAlong maybe it's not what happens everywhere then but when I went in to let them know they offered me a test to double check. But then this is my first pregnancy so I'm only going by what's happened to me so far on this one.
LadyPug I had the option of both but I must have been lucky (didn't take them up on the offer as I knew 100% I was pregnant). Hopefully everything goes well for you!

LadyPug · 15/09/2017 22:29

Thank you DeadDoorPost

Lady, all the tests have different strengths so you have to stick to one. A boots cheapie won't show till a few days after a frer for example.

Also, a test won't look darker for 2-3 days, and even then the urine may be weaker or stronger. So repeat testing can cause anxiety. Then, there comes a point around 4.5- 5.5 weeks where tests don't darken, esp the early ones. In fact they can start to lighten to a reversal type of effect.

Also digitals are notoriously inconsistent too, so don't get worried about those either.

believe me I know from experience

LadyPug · 16/09/2017 08:24

Thank you, that makes a lot of sense, I've stepped away from the tests!
