How bad are early labour pains?

39+3
Since yesterday I have been having really bad pains in my stomach and groin. Not very often maybe once every hour but they are really bloody painful. Could this be early labour or is it bh and I'm just a wimp?
No other signs, no show or anything and due for a sweep next week. Not had any pains before this so I have nothing to compare it to. First baby Smile
Thanks

Nothing useful to add OP but i am 38+5 and have had similar symptoms on and off since Saturday. Last night had pains lasting a minute long 9min apart then nothing. Cant help but think this is early labour but no idea.....place marking!!

Snap. Should have read this before posting mine.

Expectingbsbunumber2 · 14/09/2017 19:16

Mine felt like period pains at the start but a bit more sore

MyBreadIsEggy · 14/09/2017 19:32

Mine were different both times!
With my first, they came thick and fast from the get go and my daughter arrived in 3 hours Confused
With my second, I woke with what I thought to be braxton hicks - uncomfortable but not painful. That progressed within an hour to some pretty tasty period pain

Currently on the sofa panting like an idiot trying to concentrate on eastenders. Still only every 40 mins but getting worse. Hoping she hangs on til morning so I can have a sleep Grin

Hang on in there....Exciting...best of luck let us know

verysleepymum · 15/09/2017 03:00

I was 3cm for 20 hours - then my waters broke and within 15 mins I was fully dilated and my body was pushing. Dd was born 2 hours later.

I wish someone had told me I was experiencing proper labour pain and it wasn't going to get worse and that active labour can progress very very quick! Try and relax and epidurals are amazing!

Good luck!

Hiya I gave birth last week It took me 22 hours to get to 5cm. 53 hours total to give birth. I never thought early labour would last that long and by time I was in active labour I was exhausted and just fed up of being in pain, up until the 5cm I'd been on low level pain relief at home so I requested an epidural as soon as I was moved into labour ward. In those first 22 hours I was in and out of the assessment unit begging for pain relief such as gas and air but they wouldn't admit me as I was only 2cm. They have me cocodamol and oramorph which gave me 1 hours respite. I coped by having hot bath after hot bath and sitting with my back under the hot tap to soothe the pain. Bouncing on the ball and breathing also helped me. If you are staying in hospital you could request more paid relief to get you through, before you can move onto the harder stuff - that's if you want too. Also don't be scared of an epidural, I had one at 5am and was walking around and showering by 9am. I was home 7.30pn that night xxx

Hey another update, blood pressure went down so they sent me home to get some sleep. Have to see how I go and if nothing happens they will induce me on Saturday morning. Have no idea how I'm gonna sleep with this bloody pain though. They said take paracetamol Hmm
But on the bright side baby will be here this weekend either way Grin

Good luck for you and your baby. I had also labor pain but that was not sever. I thought it was some back pain due to too much bed rest. I was too active during my whole pregnancy period. I think this is the reason why I didn't get the sever pain during labor. I didn't take any medicine except folic acid pills. I got the pain before 4 hours of delivery. It was very smooth for me. If your pain is unbearable then it's better to take paracetamol. Hight BP is also due to the pain. Medicine will also help you during your labor. I am eagerly waiting for your baby. It's very lovely to take first time baby in your arms. Just like a beautiful dream to come true.

Babyblues14 · 16/09/2017 11:24

Went back in last night as the pain was excruciating, couldn't even stand and was only 3cm. They decided to break my waters as I couldn't stop screaming. Big wimp Grin took 6 hours from going in to having baby and she arrived at 7.20 this morning. Absolutely exhausted but couldn't be happier. Good luck for everyone else still waiting Smile
