Baby photography - release rights?

Hi
I recent had a lovely baby: family photo shoot and now eagerly waiting the pics. Photographer has emailed me requesting I sign the "photo release" before I see any pics. This release requires me to sign over all rights and allows photographer "unrestricted" use of all images.
Is this normal? Not sure if I am being silly but this makes me feel uncomfortable.

We have family pics done. I get sent a couple when they're ready but with the photographer's logo on. At this stage I pay and get sent all the original files. They are my pics to use as I like. No release form involved.

Just ask them what it refers to. Usually it's just so they can use them for promo and marketing
