Shivery at 4 weeks

Hi all, I recently found out I'm pregnant for the first time and am 4 weeks. I've had the implantation cramps but am also feeling tired and shivery. I've read that your basal temp is meant to rise but not heard much about feeling shivery. I've needed a hot water bottle the last two evenings to feel warm again. Has anyone else experienced this and is it normal? Thanks in advance!

I'm the same, I feel the cold much more but I also can't stand if too hot. I think my temperature regulation is just off in general. I was the same with my last pregnancy but always too hot with my first, but different seasons and work conditions with first.

PandaCat · 10/09/2017 20:58

Before I did a test, I was shivering loads in the evening and falling asleep before 9. I thought I was coming down with something!

DeadDoorpost · 10/09/2017 23:39

I shivered for 13 weeks. For me though it was because I suffered with Hyperemesis and was losing weight at an alarming rate and on top of that I also had a terrible cold. I'm still cold now occasionally and if baffled DH as I should be warmer apparently due to having a baby inside me. But it's not affecting me so don't know why he's concerned.
I've also spoken to a few women who said that they came down with cold when they first got pregnant as their immune systems became more vulnerable so don't know if that's a possibility for you? But just be glad you can snuggle up in quilts and blankets in the coming months and not look odd. I've been wrapped up throughout the summer. Hmm

Are you sure you're 4 weeks? For most people that's about when their period is due. I wouldn't even be late after four weeks.

BaffledMummy · 11/09/2017 03:37

I was constantly freezing in both pregnancies throughout my 1st trimester. only thing for it was to wrap up in jumpers and blankets and go to bed. I seemed to warm up a bit in my second tri and by third, I was mainly boiling hot all the time! As PP said, pregnancy seems to knock your temperature regulation right out the window.

Thanks so much @Ameliablue @PandaCat @DeadDoorpost and @BaffledMummy that's all v reassuring! I just feel off kilter but since it's my first pregnancy I guess that's normal. I do get hot as well. @Wolfiefan yes I did a test after missing my period by four days and it came up 1-2 weeks. Early days but a second test confirmed it for me and still no period x

@Youzanne this is my first pregnancy as well. I've had to mainly take it 1 day at a time but I'm currently wrapped up in bed still.. May need to dig out my winter quilt now the weather has gone back to being wet and rainy.

Youzanne · 12/09/2017 23:21

Aw congratulations @DeadDoorpost It's a strange but beautiful feeling realising you're pregnant first time isn't it? Wrap up warm for sure, I'm doing the same! Smile

Youzanne you mis underestimate me 😂😂😂 I was not at all happy when I found out. Still not used to it but at least I'm not crying.

Ekphrasis · 13/09/2017 05:54

I've been shivery on and off. Had a virus too that send temp skyrocketing briefly then back down. I think it's fluctuating hormones.

Mrsbclinton · 13/09/2017 06:35

I was constantly cold for the first trimester of my third pregnancy. I never had it on previous pregnancies.

I spoke to doctor about it and she checked thyroid as feeling cold can be a symptom. Thankfully all was fine and I warmed up again!

Youzanne · 13/09/2017 07:39

Ahh sorry @DeadDoorpost, I didn't get that from your last posts. Hope you're coping and adjusting ok! How many weeks are you now?
Thanks for sharing @Mrsbclinton and @Ekphrasis seems it's pretty normal then, thyroid was something the dr mentioned to me too but I seem to be a little warmer now. I almost feel a bit hungover most mornings when I wake up, does anyone else feel that?!

30 weeks Youzanne and don't worry about it. I've been having to adjust my mindset otherwise I think I'd end up going crazy. DH always wanted kids and he knew I didn't.. we both accepted it but I felt like maybe the time was right to have one. Even if it's the only child I ever ever like.

Youzanne · 13/09/2017 12:27

@DeadDoorpost that's really honest of you. Im sure a lot of women feel this way and perhaps do it more for their partner if they decide to. A friend of mine felt that way, and said she found pregnancy strange and only connected when she gave birth. I'm sure you will feel that way when you see your baby. It's all a bit surreal at this stage!

I didn't face shivery feelings in my pregnancy. During pregnancy cramps and pain is a normal thing. I also faced pain during my 8th month of pregnancy. Cramps were only in early months. A very little morning sickness in first 3 months. After that all went to smooth. My delivery time was also very smooth. My labor pain was too minimal to hardly feel it. I thought it as routine pain. Then midwife told me to go for labor. What doctors are saying about shivering? Are you using any alcoholic food in access? I listened that some women have pregnancy somehow strange than others. Although it is very rare but it happens. Wait for sometime, if it still happening, consult with your gynaecologist. It may be due to the urinary infection.

Youzanne · 13/09/2017 14:53

Thanks for your advice and sharing your own experience @Suzi763 The dr took a urine sample to check this and no infection found. She thinks it's probably my body adjusting to a surge in hormones. Hopefully all is ok!

I remember feeling really shivery and weak when I was 6 weeks with my third pregnancy, I had hot and cold flushes, I went on to have a light bleed but everything was ok, and cause was never found, but I never felt right.

HarryHarry · 13/09/2017 15:16

I've been freezing the whole time with occasional hot flashes, usually when I'm eating. I have very mild hypothyroidism for which I'm taking medication so that might be why.
