Lead paint on floor

Hi Ladies,

I'm having a bit of a panic about the renovations going on in our new home at the moment and wondered if anyone had any experiences that could reassure me (or not)?

We moved into our new house about a month ago and I'm now 25 weeks pregnant. We've only had to do minimal work on the house with the exception of the lounge - we have taken up the carpet and are going to get the floorboards sanded and restored next month.

The guy who came round commented that splashes of paint on the original floorboards are lead paint, so I would need to be out of the house until the sanding and lacquering is done. Apparently the process won't create much dust so it should clear pretty quickly.

I'm really concerned though - first off I didn't realise we'd taken up a carpet (and it was really dusty) to reveal lead paint or potentially dust with lead in. Secondly, surely if lead gets into the dust in our house from sanding, it will stay there for longer than a few days?

Any advice or experience would be appreciated! Thanks
