Scan at 7 weeks, will I need a full bladder?

I'm booked for a 'reassurance' scan tomorrow when I will be 7 weeks. I forgot to ask if I need a full bladder and it's all been a bit quick so no letter or anything. Does anyone know if I'll need a full bladder or if it'll just be straight to TV scan anyway?
Thanks!

Hi juni I would guess it will be an internal scan so you won't need to have a full bladder (i was told to empty mine straight before scan) hope it goes well for you 🙂

Yes you'll need a full bladder. I had a scan at 7 weeks and was asked to drink a pint of water before leaving home (30 mins away) the picture was really clear and I didn't need a TV scan.

Forgot to say I hope it all goes well for you Flowers

Yep same as tickle, didn't need a tv. I'd drink beforehand and then if it's not clear enough you can just go for a wee! Good luck!

Oh wow fast responses! Thanks all. Ok, I'm sure between my morning cuppa and nerves my bladder will be full up regardless Grin. I'll just avoid my usual 'safety wee' before going through.

Feeling so nervous but will let you know how I get on. Thanks again x

I'd drink even more than that if I were you - I had to wait an extra hour when I had a scan with dd2 and they gave me lots of little plastic cups of water to drink. The bladder has to be full for an abdominal US. If they decide to do an internal instead you will just need to empty your bladder, but better being prepared for either scenario.

daisygirlmac · 07/09/2017 18:58

I had lots and lots of early scans. I used to drink a small bottle of water on the way then about 4 or 5 small cups while I was waiting. Sometimes still needed a TV scan (trans vaginal scan in case you didn't know).

Waitingonasmile · 07/09/2017 19:02

2 pints of water at least an hour before. If you don't drink enough water and they try abdominal they'll see very little. This happened to me and was disappointing but my own fault.

JuniUmiZoomi · 07/09/2017 19:29

Oh gosh I have a bladder the size of a pea. Two pints of water will come out whether I want it to or not...Shock But I"ll make sure it's good and full.

I've got one at 8 weeks and the paperwork says to drink one pint an hour before the appointment

Hi, just to let you know it was straight to TV so all my drinking was for nothing! But all is ok and looking good so far. Phew and hurrah!
Thanks for your replies.

I had a 6 week scan today and had to go to the toilet 3 times At the hospital just couldn't hold it in 😂 the scan was still great could see lots and no internal was needed. I do drink a lot tho. Hope the scan goes well :)

Poppy012 · 08/09/2017 15:17

Sorry just seen you have already had the scan 🙈
Glad it went well

BAR91 · 09/09/2017 18:10

I had a scan that early and they could do it as an abdominal ultrasound. Because I'm tall and broad built I need to drink extra but a very full bladder worked for us :)
