30 weeks pregnant and moving house

The house hasn't been altered or decorated since 1972. We have our current rented house for another 4-5 weeks before we have to move to the new house which currently has no kitchen and a crappy old bathroom. All the walls need cracks filling and preparing for painting. Need radiator pipes boxing in. My dad has taken 2 weeks off to help. He used to have a home improvements business so there are a lot of things he can do/help with. My partner is currently working away and absolutely lost it with me because my dad is doing the jobs he wanted to do... if these jobs don't get done we can't progress. I can't cope. There is not much I can do myself. I don't know what to say to my partner. I'm so upset and angry as if the baby and I come second as long as he has his project. What do I do?

I would say to him either he takes 2 weeks off and does it, or your dad is going to do it. Either way it will be done by the end of the month!

Ahh I feel for you OP, I moved into a complete renovation project about 6 weeks ago & we are still battling with builders & tradesman to get work done. I'm so stressed it won't be done before my little girl arrives (I'm 32+4) - I have had a few disagreements with my OH pushing for things to be done. If I was you I'd try and calmly speak to your partner & say how much it's worrying you & your Dad is willing to help to speed things up. Once I explained to my husband how I was feeling he got it, he just wanted to get everything done right & got too bogged down with tiny details. We don't have time for tiny details! Haha!

I hope you sort it out xx

I also felt like my OH was too focused on the project, and not the baby & me at one point but I think it was just down to wanting to get it right. Doing the house up was his way of preparing for the baby, he just didn't quite go about it in the right way at first xx

Had a chat this afternoon. He's had to go away and rethink he's priorities. My dad has been asked to leave him something's this weekend and crack on with doing the master bedroom and living room so I can at least start painting when it's dry. Been pulling my hair out since the weekend and got so stressed I nearly called the midwife about stress induced Labour! Pregnancy is so much fun!

Nice to know we're not the only crazy people who move house in the last trimester. Even better to know that things worked out fine for others. Thank you!!

Oh gosh, sounds so stressful! A lot can happen in 4-5 weeks though, think positive! And tell your DP to UP HIS GAME!!! Not acceptable. Yay for your dad.

We purposefully timed our last sale so that we moved one the baby was born - moved in when he was 7 weeks old.

I'm 30 weeks pg too! Whoop! 11 Nov for me, yay! Good luck with everything.

Yy! We moved at 33 weeks. Make sure you have a bag of clothes and knickers for both of you for a week, your hospital bag packed (with mat notes!) and somewhere safe, and a bag with coffee/tea and breakfast stuff so you're not digging around for it.

Best of luck, it is daunting but my mw reckoned every other patient of hers moved in the third trimester Grin

op I feel for you but comforting to know others also do these crazy things. We are about to complete on a building site, works will probably take 2-3months, and I'm in my first trimester. Baby due in April so really hoping it's all done by then!

One thing I'm definitely doing if you haven't planned it already is to get professional packers in to force me not to try get involved with any packing/heavy lifting etc. Bit of extra cost but hopefully worth it.

Harriet (that's MY name!) deffo get the packers!!!!! So worth it. We spent more on removals than estate agents Grin (online agents so super cheap)
