Will it be OK. My fault as moved them from by the kettle where I'd see them.. I'm 13.5 now.

Will be fine. I wouldn't worry at all x

NorthernLurker · 04/09/2017 19:21

Please don't worry. Folic acid supplementation reduces the risk of a problem but it's the long term use that's important not each individual dose. In any case after12 weeks most of the important structural development of your baby is done and dusted. This won't be a problem at all. Congratulations on your pregnancy.

MaryShelley1818 · 04/09/2017 19:33

I stopped taking them at 12wks pregnant, you don't take them after that.

allthecheese · 04/09/2017 19:38

I was advised by my midwife to stop taking them at 13 weeks anyway because taking it past the first trimester has been linked to tongue tie.

Don't worry OP, you will be fine.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 04/09/2017 19:40

I stopped taking them at 12 weeks because they made me sick

Lemondrop99 · 04/09/2017 19:45

However you do need to keep taking Vit D all the way through your pregnancy

ScoobyDoosTinklyLaugh · 04/09/2017 19:55

This thread has reminded me I've forgotten to take my pregnancy vit for about two weeks now Confused

ScarlettInSpace · 04/09/2017 20:22

Whoa what's that? Stop taking folic acid at 13 weeks? I'm 20 weeks, no one told me that Confused

Last appt midwife asked if I was still taking vits, I said I switched from pregnacare to just folic acid at 12 weeks because they were making me constipated Blush and she didn't say to stop altogether!!

ellesbellesxxx · 04/09/2017 20:29

My consultant told me to take it whole time (was on higher dose as twins) but absolutely a few missed doses are fine as it's long term consumption which is important

Lemondrop99 · 04/09/2017 21:15

Scarlett, folic acid is only required for the first 12 weeks. After that time, baby's spine is developed so taking it won't make much difference. That said, it also won't do any harm.

As mentioned above though, if you take nothing else, DO take your Vit D right through to labour.

bigkidsdidit · 04/09/2017 21:18

OP, you'll be fine.

Lemon, where did you see that it doesn't do harm to take it all the way through? I was told to stop at 12 weeks as after that has been linked to a higher chance of the child developing asthma. I was last pregnant in 2013 though so perhaps it has changed since then.

Lemondrop99 · 04/09/2017 21:23

I asked my midwife about it, as Pregnacare has folic acid in but state they are suitable to take throughout pregnancy. She said the first 12 weeks were the most important but taking it throughout via Pregnacare wasn't an issue. As it turns out it was a moot point, as Pregnacare contributed to my nausea so I stopped and switched to just Vit D at around 30 weeks.

Lemondrop99 · 04/09/2017 21:26

Just had a peek on the NHS website

"The Department of Health recommends that women should take a daily supplement of 400 micrograms of folic acid while they are trying to conceive, and should continue taking this dose for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, when the baby's spine is developing. However, it is safe to continue taking folic acid supplements after 12 weeks."

Maryann1975 · 04/09/2017 21:36

Honestly, you will be fine. Are you having a healthy and varied diet? That's more important than taking vitamin tablets.

certainlynotsusan · 04/09/2017 22:04

I didn't take vitamins at all during my pregancies (I'm useless and remembered so infrequently I may as well have not taken any). The kids all seem to have survived.

Mum2oneds · 04/09/2017 22:50

Thank you. Will continue with vit d. But won't re start folic xx

Thank you from me too this thread was an education Smile

DeadDoorpost · 05/09/2017 13:16

I literally took one tablet during the first 12 weeks as I didn't even know I was supposed to (1st pregnancy) until midwife mentioned it as 10 week booking appointment. Only because I suffer with HG I could never keep the tablets down so gave up. Ate a ton of cereal with folic acid in it instead to help. Seems to have worked for me as baby's spine looked all good in the scans.

Littlecaf · 05/09/2017 13:24

It's been linked to tongue tie so don't take it after 12/13 weeks. Congrats on your pregnancy.
