Hi. Am 7 weeks pregnant with twins following IVF. This morning had sex and there was a tiny bit of spotting of blood after which went immediately and no cramps etc. Feel fine but worried its normal or not. The fertility clinic said it was fine to have sex. Any advice greatly appreciated. Jen xxx

The first question you are generally asked if you ring EPU with spotting is "Did you just have sex?" Your cervix is basically full of blood and mucus right now and it's very common for sex to irritate it slightly and cause spotting. If it's stopped now and you have no more then I'd be pretty sure that's all that's going on but feel free to consult midwife or EPU if you want to be sure. If you have any more bleeding, seek advice obvs.

Good luck with the pregnancy :)

I had it. I had a cervical erosion due to all the hormones. cleared up after a few weeks.

I also had brown blood, red spotting.

All fine in the end and unexplained Smile

Oh yes, and while I didn't explicitly say this, spotting caused by sex irritating the cervix is fine and nothing to worry about. Sex is fine in pregnancy unless advised otherwise. I'm impressed that you felt up to it at 7 weeks with twins, frankly!

Thanks loads ladies, called a doc who booked me in to EPU on Tuesday...so I'm guessing they arent too concerned. No blood or anything now. Hmm know what you mean re sex, haven't done it at all through IVF, was a one off hehe. Fingers crossed. X

Weirdly I had the same, went for a reassurance scan and was told twins too! The doctor told me spotting is more common with multiple pregnancies. Congratulations Flowers

Wow thanks Gunpowder! Feel reassured. Will still go checked out but no bleeding since. How far gone are you? X

25 weeks. It's very exciting when they both start kicking you at the same time. Smile

Wow that must be weird. Cant imagine. Just ended up nipping to A and E to get checked out, OTT but couldnt rest. They werent concerned and i am having a reassurance scan Tuesday. Said everything moving around and lots of blood flowing down there. Do you know what you are having or is it a surprise?

The beginning bit is so tough when you feel horrible but aren't certain the babies are ok isn't it? Especially when there are two. I didn't have any spotting with either of my singleton pregnancies so I was worried too but apparently with most miscarriages there is significant pain and/or bleeding rather than a little bit of spotting if that makes you feel better. Good luck for Tuesday. I'll have everything crossed for you.

We're having two surprises although with all the extra scans I may be tempted. Will you find out?
