I am 37 weeks and my MW has suggested i start drinking raspberry leaf tea and eating the woody middle bit of pineapple to get things going. Sounds totally bizarre to me but all the same off i trot and get some.....just wondered if anyone has any success stories ( i am assuming there have been coincidences!!)

I was overdue with 3rd dc. Had sex and made sure it was very enjoyable for me i.e. Strong orgasm. Had a few contractions after and then they started properly an hour or so later.

With the pineapple, it's based on the fact that it contains the enzyme bromelain - however, you'd need to eat about ten in one sitting to get enough in you to make any difference at all . And you cannot eat ten pineapples in one sitting. I tried this trick when I was overdue with DS1. Ate a whole one in one sitting. Just made me feel a bit sick and made my mouth hurt. Not worth it.

I tried everything, including tricks that I hope my MIL would not suggest Wink. I can honestly say that nothing worked! The only things I didn't try were acupuncture and reflexology. Walks, resting, sex, pineapple, raspberry leaf tea, curry - you name it. Sorry!

I drank the tea and first baby was 3 days early second baby 6 days early! Good luck 😊

I thought raspberry leaf wasn't supposed to bring on labour just help with toning the uterus? Nipple stimulation worked for me every time, contractions started straight away

doleritedinosaur · 02/09/2017 02:29

You need to drink the tea from about 32 weeks & at least a litre to get anything to happen.

Nipple stimulation with an orgasm is supposed to work.
I tried everything with my second & went into labour 39 weeks after giving up all the methods.

CherriesInTheSnow · 02/09/2017 04:28

I drank RLT from the late second trimester and although I don't think it made labour come on, I do think it helped with contractions and mainly the blood loss afterwards :)

The only thing I have seen any scientific studies actually back up are eating dates and nipple stimulation. I've heard a lot of women say acupressure/acupuncture are effective methods too.

I did have sex and like a PP made sure I had a good strong orgasm and I did go into labour a couple of hours later, but I was 4 days overdue and had been having sex all throughout the pregnancy so who knows if it helped!

I tried everything, nothing seemed to work until I had a VERY HOT vindaloo (so hot I didn't actually enjoy it at all, but was determined)
Spent the next day filled with regret on the toilet. Mild irregular contractions throughout the day though! Then midnight came and they became stronger and more frequent. Had DD that day.
Try a vindaloo if you can handle being on the toilet for half a day Blush

Jellybabie3 · 02/09/2017 08:18

Blimey. Not sure about the vindaloo lol. Never heard of the nipple one! Maybe i will try it Smile

I was on the toilet for half a day before contractions started even without the vindaloo- so you might find you have the clear out anyway.

silkybear · 02/09/2017 08:49

Not convinced about RL tea as I thought it tasted horrible and DD didn't turn up til 42 weeks so it did nothing for me. You are supposed to eat 6 dates a day from 37 weeks as that helps get your uterus ready and can make labour quicker, so i will do that again this time as it has been proven to help. Not brave enough for vindaloo in case I end up with curry shits on the labour suite with DH looking on in horror Blush. Have heard good results from acupuncture and orgasms.

KimchiLaLa · 02/09/2017 23:39

I bought RLT as I heard it makes contractions easier - I don't want it if it brings on labour!

xShoppingQueenx · 02/09/2017 23:49

I drank raspberry leaf tea from 36wks twice a day. I wouldn't say it caused early labour but definitely caused a fast labour as muscles were so relaxed. DD was born in just under an hour!

Jellybabie3 · 03/09/2017 09:10

Ace. I have only been having 1 per day but will up it from today Smile

Foot massage - inside of ankle, back of ankle, pressure points on soles of feet. If you google foot pressure points to induce labour, there's tons of stuff on the subject. Alternatively you could pay for pregnancy reflexology.

KimchiLaLa · 03/09/2017 09:53

shoppingqueen wow! Was dd your first?!

Gunpowder · 03/09/2017 12:39

Dates! (As Cherries says) there is a study which is small but encouraging. I was on a big antenatal group and no one went more than a few days over and all had good labours including an unplanned homebirth, luckily with a MW present. We were all second timers though which I'm sure had the bigger impact.
