Hi,

So today i eas diagnosed with SVT nithung serious just not very pleasant. The cardiologist had given me Metoprolol to take. Which after her saying can affect the babies heart beat i was distraught. I did ask what if i dont take it and she told me then i would be putting her at more. She has only given me a low dosage but still after hearing that it can affect my babys heart beat im petrified to take it :( and vice versa if i dont take it! Any advice would be appreciated x

Metoprolol is a very short acting drug compared to other beta blockers (drugs that slow down the heart) so is the safest for you and your baby.

By far the most dangerous thing that could happen is you having a severe episode of SVT as that could affect your baby. While taking medication in pregnancy is best avoided, often the risks by far outweigh the benefits.

You're basically at term now so you'll be seeing your beautiful baby soon!

Thank you. Am I silly for being upset? Think it was when the Dr said what the side affects are to my baby it was just said with no tact, so i was left feeling upset and wishing i'd have asked more questions. She also said theyd induce me next week, so waiting to hear from my consultant x

You're not silly at all! Sounds like another 2 minutes of explanation could have helped your concerns, sorry to hear you didn't get that. Fingers crossed for a straightforward induction! Flowers
