Awkward and slightly embarrassing question - first time mum- how you do know when your waters have gone?! Is it loads, does it all come at once, is it a Trickle- how do you know the difference between waters going and not having done enough pelvic floor exercises?!! Sorry- TMI 😏

For my first dd my waters didn't break, they were broken at the hospital.
My 2nd dd, I was asleep and woke up suddenly, feeling like I needed a wee, but it was already trickling out, when I squeezed to try and stop it, it didn't stop so I got out of bed and it was just running out, that's when I realised.
My waters were coming out for hours, but I was quite big and a lot of it was water, also it smells Grin

So if it doesn't stop when you squeeze it's your waters Grin

It can be a gush or a trickle. You'll know when they're gone. I had a little gush to start with then a continuous trickle until DD arrived.

Lillygreen · 31/08/2017 13:54

It can be both. It just depends on how where they are in relation to baby's head.
If it leaks when you go to stand up, cough or move around and you have no control and can feel it come out (even a little) then that's your waters. Smile good luck

Mine were just a trickle, all day.. at first I thought I kept weeing myself 🙈😂 but I put a pad in after a few hours and it was a different colour, more pinkish. And smelt different too!

You might feel the waters breaking. It's a really weird feeling. It feels like someone has put a hole in a piece of latex but it's inside you.

scrivette · 31/08/2017 14:06

Both times mine gushed and there was no stopping them!

Good luck! You'll be holding your baby before you know it.

Probably a bit late now but I didn't actually know when my waters had broke because they were leaking so slowly. I thought it was just very watery discharge andcalled triage but the midwife said i was probably peeing myself because of weakened pelvic floor Blush luckily I trusted my instinct and called back insisting on going in as my waters had gone! I was induced the next day. Always get checked out if in any doubt.

@Teamkhaleesi lol- Thankyou for your post- am on the ante natal ward, husband has been sent home (40 mins away)to check on SS (he's 7) and I'm feeling very over emotional- your post has made me smile 😊 is ironic as I was looking forward to going back to work tomorrow! (Teacher- was only going in for a week!). They did a water check thing on me - basically a large Cotton wool bud- it bloody hurt - hoping this doesn't set me up for being a wimp. Xxx
