So confused about gestation

I went for a an early can today expecting to be around 7 or 8 weeks pregnant, as I have been getting positive test since 4 weeks ago. but at the scan she said I was only around 5 weeks. Is this right will a test actually pick up that early ?? Now starting to worry as it was a private scan so couldn't offer an internal and obviously at 5 weeks heartbeat isn't visible 😕

I had my early scan that dated me at 6 weeks, meaning I found out when i was only just over 3 weeks pregnant. This pushed me back by nearly 3 weeks from what I originally thought was my gestation and then at the 12 week scan that pushed me forward by a week. That's why they don't really date much before 12 weeks. It's not easy to tell.
