Bio Oil during 1st trimester (contains Vit A)

Hi, I am just wondering if anyone feels it's safe or unsafe to start using Bio Oil in the first trimester? I've read that we need to limit the amount of Vit A we consume, but not sure about Vit A in oil/cream form. It says on the info leaflet to use it from 2nd trimester. Is this because of the Vit A in it or because typically there isn't a need for it in the first trimester?

Sounds silly I know. Thanks for your opinions ladies.

Vitamin A supplementation isn't safe at any point in pregnancy (levels that are too high can cause brain damage), but that's via oral consumption. I wouldn't be worried about it in topical form as it won't really enter your blood stream in any significant amount.

That said, many people shy away from using bio oil because it does contain essential oils that are contraindicated in pregnancy. I think it's perhaps the rosemary oil in it? I can't remember, but anyway, aromatherapists usually don't consider it ideal to use. Plus it's expensive (that alone put me off).

Obviously loads of women use it, so I don't think it will do you any harm though. Personally, I used cocoa butter and then also a base oil (sweet almond) that I added my own pregnancy safe oils to.

I used it all the way through my pregnancies - no problems whatsoever! And no stretch marks :-)

Thank you all for your advice and thoughts on it. @SeaSeaker did you use it during the first trimester?

Yes I did - I started using it the minute I found out I was pregnant
