At the 12 week scan, it was found that baby's chin was slightly receded and were querying micrognathia. After some Googling (I know!) I scared myself, but also told myself that it was only slight. Again at the 20 week scan, baby still has a slightly receded chin, but all other measurements, functions are normal.

The hospital has referred me to Bristol Foetal Medicine Unit for a second opinion re:micrognathia and I am now terrified they'll find something and if the consequences.

My hospital have tried to reassure me that it's only for a second opinion at this stage and were really positive about all other measurements being normal. They also said Bristol could say everything is fine and chin will catch up, just have extra scans to keep an eye on it.

Has anyone had micrognathia in their baby? What were the outcomes? I have OCD and anxiety so this is really invading my thoughts at the moment.

My appointment is Thursday.

Hi there....
We've had this flagged at a recent hospital check, my little one is 15 weeks now and only noticed by medics last week (shes been in and out of Dr's and GPs for tongue tie, reflux, hip dysplasia etc I would have thought it'd been raised earlier 😔)
There is no follow up on the report where it is noted. Can I ask your little ones symptoms or signs? My daughter has a smaller chin and small jaw.

How did you get on at your appointment?

Just realised you are yet to have the baby I'm guessing! This wasn't picked up at scan for us. I'm going to look at our scans and see if it was visible....

I'm now under a specialist dr at another hospital. They said his chin is either on the smaller side of normal range or larger side of micrognathia, so they're just going to monitor it with extra scans. Very pleased with this result.
Does you DD have anything related to it? Any syndromes etc?
Thanks for getting in touch

Hi, was curious if anyone know how common micrognathia/ what percentage of babies are affected.
I had my Nuchal scan on Monday (13+3 weeks).
Sonographer didn’t say anything wrong during the scan and marked on the report as normal. However at the end she said she referred us to FMU (London Royal Hospital) to check the baby’s chin. She said she was not sure but it looks to her short. And she couldn’t do further investigation as baby was not cooperating. My additional scan this Friday but I’m going mental. We haven’t received the blood test result yet but we did harmony test at 12 weeks privately. And it came back low probably.
Has anyone had similar experiences with Nuchal scan or know how common this abnormality?
Thank you
