Pain in shoulder blade?

Nbg · 01/04/2007 20:32

I know I'm a worrier and always think the worst and its funny how I've just found out I am pg but the pain is there.

Its in my shoulder blade on my back, not shoulder tip and its a shooting pain occasionaly with a bit of an ache further down.
I do get aches in my shoulder blades if I dont sit properly.

If it was eptopic pain, would it be constant and would I have any other symptoms?
I'm ok apart from this.

I don't want to scare you at all but shoulder tip pain can be a symptom of blood clots in the lung (pulmonary embolism) which you are more at risk from when pregnant.
Have you had any other symptoms or been ill recently?
I would phone NHS direct if I were you.

(My sister had this recently)

Nbg · 01/04/2007 20:47

its not shoulder tip, its in my back, the shoulder blade and at the top of my back, not on the top of my shoulder IYSWIM.

i don't know about the pain of an ectopic pg, but you could log onto the ectopic website and ask there, there will be alot of information for you.

ANd if you are worried, then I'd call NHS direct, or even just go to A and E.
If you are right, that it isn't an ectopic, no problem, but if it is then you may have saved your life by investiating it further.

I don't want to scare you or stress you out... but i think you should take it seriously

mum2sons · 01/04/2007 20:58

Hi Nbg
Do have a look at the ectopic trust website
www.ectopic.org

I would get yourself checked out. Should pain can be a symptom of ectopic pregnancy. I don`t want to worry you but ectopic symptoms can be very variable.
Do you have any bleeding or one-sided pain?
A scan would rule out EP and reassure you...

I hope you are ok

trace2 · 01/04/2007 20:58

DelGirl · 01/04/2007 21:18

This might sound odd, but could it be trapped wind? I had horrendous shoulder pain when I was about 9 weeks pg and it was that

Nbg · 01/04/2007 21:18

Yeah, they said it could be an hour!

How you doing trace? How long you got left?

OP posts:
Nbg · 01/04/2007 21:19

Now that sounds better del!

I had bad diorreah this morning (TMI) but I think that was due to me being so shocked about the pg test.

well it could be you know, I came on here too, it was awful, it was so painful. Think it's to do with all the ligaments moving etc but could just be something I ate, which come to think of it, wasn't much cos of MS. Hope the pain eases soon. The tip I was given on here was to lie down on the bed, with my right arm above my head and the left down by my side. It helped

Kitsilano · 01/04/2007 21:21

How weird. I just found out I was pregnant last week and woke this morning with a pain in my upper back that sounds exactly what you have described. Shoulder blade level, more one side than the other, hurts when I look up or down or move my head from side to side. I just assumed I had slept awkwardly...

I'd be interested to know what NHS direct say

Kits

Nbg · 01/04/2007 21:22

Thank you del
You've calmed me down.

Everything I have read says I'm not ectopic material IYSWIM but I have a very over active imagination.

trace2 · 01/04/2007 21:24

SparklyGothKat · 01/04/2007 21:24

I had this yesterday, am 8 weeks pregnant, and today it went into my lower back, i believe its the ligaments softening.

Nbg · 01/04/2007 21:37
