Chances of labour without induction @ 41 weeks

Hi I'm 41 weeks exactly today and so far absolutely nothing has happened 😫

Had 3 failed attempts at a sweep (couldn't reach my cervix properly to sweep the membranes) and head was only 2/5th engaged. Midwife did say that he did keep bobbing in and out of engagement though and that this can happen right up to you actually go into labour.

Anyway... I'm feeling very down. I feel like my body is broken and it's in the back of my mind that there's something wrong with either me or baby. I have tried every old wife's tale in the book and I'm really giving up hope now that it's going to happen naturally!

I was only 2 days over with my first baby (he's now 4) after a successful sweep on my due date. I was expecting the same with this one but nope :(

I'm booked for induction this Thursday but I really really don't want one :( I want to stay in the MLU and have my water birth!! I'm also absolutely terrified at the thought of a c-sec. I'm scared to death that something will go wrong.

What is the likelihood that I will go into spontaneous labour without induction being as I'm so overdue? Has anyone here gone into labour on their own past 41 weeks?!

I'm also very shocked that I'm late as I literally know the date and exact time of conception as there was no action before or after said date for weeks! (Partner and I were trying but around the time of conception we were so busy with work etc that we only managed to DTD once 🙈) so I honestly thought my due date would be absolutely bang on.

Please give me some hope folks, I'm feeling very low in spirits today :(

41+4 for first baby.
First sweep at 41+1, nothing happened. Second one 41+3, waters broke hours later, baby born early next morning in MLU. No real signs of labour beforehand, same with second baby - no hints that anything will happen, and then - it does.

You don't have to be induced, you can request to monitor and wait, bit I guess that will preclude you from the MLU?

Hi @Callamia that's good to hear. Felt like I'd lost all hope! Yeah I have heard that you don't have to be induced and that you can wait... is that just because people want to do it naturally or does being induced make labour harder/more painful? Xx

I think both...
I was booked for inductions both times, and both times the boys came on the day of their induction without needing it. I was massively relieved, because I would rather go without induction if possible. I walked and walked and walked, and got lucky.

I did talk to a friend the night before my second planned induction. She had two inductions for medical reasons, and she made it sound manageable. I was more prepared after that.

Giving quite a literal answer to your question, I've been refreshing this labour probability calculator every day:

datayze.com/labor-probability-calculator.php

Plugging in your due date, it reckons you have a 67% chance of spontaneous labour within the next week!

My last baby was born the night before induction at 12 days late! Like you, sweeps were impossible for me so I kept asking for more tries, having long walks and sex and eventually things started moving. Fingers crossed you manage to avoid induction too

First dd 11 days late, second dd 9 days. Went for a second sweep, again mw couldn't reach my cervix and booked me in for an induction for the beginning of the next week. I had not lost the mucus plug, no indications of labour at all. That night I woke up with contractions and dd2 was born a couple of hours later. My body just decides to gi into labour, there was no build up with either birth!
