i dont mean to sound silly but im nervous. i had a private scan at 8 wees 1 day and all was fine fetal heart beat was 175bmp. i found out i was blessed from 4 weeks. i have 1 son but he is 12 years old so there is a big age gap.
i have tried to use a fetal doppler and i get whoosing sound and im sure it is my pulse as it doesnt sound like a train.
i have been so stressed out recently and now i am so worried for 12 week scan next thursday if there was a problem with baby would i be in pain or have a bleed? because i have read so online i dont know what to believe
i have not got pain or i havent bled so i dont know why im so nervous
please coud someone advise me ?????

My advice would be to go get your money back on the Doppler. . Recent articles suggest they cause anxiety and false reassurance anyway. .

If you have any worries seek advice from a trained medic. Mw /consultant / other.

jazmynen3 · 28/08/2017 11:09

do u know if i should be able to baby on doppler tho from 11 weeks
i think im just gonna put it well away
cuz its driving me mad xx

Unless you are trained you really won't be able to hear it. Def not this early anyway.
Recent news article had a woman hearing her own heartbeat and assumed baby was fine when it wasn't. They are campaigning for them to be banned from public purchase.

jazmynen3 · 28/08/2017 11:15

which i think is a good idea
but if there was a problem with baby this early would a woman bleed or have some pain

I have a home doppler and couldn't hear the baby's heartbeat until 14/15 weeks I think. I'm now 22 weeks so not hearing it that early doesn't mean there's anything wrong with your baby. It's so small it's pretty easy for it to hide in there, not to mention you could have an anterior placenta (I do), which can also make it more difficult to hear.

I agree with the other posters, put the doppler away and try not to stress about it.

CL1982 · 28/08/2017 14:27

Personally steer clear of the dopplers :) There is a lot of bad press about the at home ones....

littlemissalwaystired · 28/08/2017 14:31

Please do not use dopplers at home; even if a heartbeat is heard it can give false reassurance that baby's okay even if movements are reduced. People without training don't know what midwives are listening for - it's more than just checking the heart beat is present. 16 weeks is the minimum for midwives to use a Doppler and even then we can't always find the heartbeat easily but we don't worry about it when baby is that small.

emilysprings · 28/08/2017 14:54

Awww I'm 11 weeks and 5 days :) I asked the midwife this and she said you shouldn't use them until 16weeks+ as I wanted one she was really against it :) hope this helps

SheSaidHeSaid · 28/08/2017 15:11

I originally thought about buying one but after doing some research decided against it, I don't want to rely on it at a later stage when really i should be counting the kicks and not listening to a heartbeat.

I'm 13 weeks and it's too early for me now anyway.

The whooshing sound is the blood flowing through the placenta. A lot of people mistake this for a heart beat. Which is why dopplers are best used by a professional. I had one wish my son and it caused extreme anxiety. I binned it. I think they can do more harm than good. I know it's a very anxious time but you're so close to your 12 week scan. The wait is nearly over.

YorkieDorkie · 28/08/2017 21:31

Don't use a Doppler for goodness sake. There's a reason your midwife is trained to use one. There are two massive reasons you should even bother with them:

  1. You could fail to hear a heartbeat and receive emergency care that you do not require and someone else DOES!
  2. You could hear your own heartbeat and think everything is fine and it's not - in this scenario you will have missed a cue to get checked by a professional.

Be kind to yourself! CakeFlowers

jazmynen3 · 28/08/2017 23:44

thankyou i have binned it now
i think its true the cause more worry than anything
i think people shouldnt be able to buy them at all
cause u watch these youtube videos of people picking up a heartbeat and then u start to drive your self crazy
im just letting nature take its course now but thankyou again for everyones advice

I'm due between 7-13 March and have a 12 yr old. I'm. The same, I thought about a dopler and decided against it as my anxietyis through the roof at the mo I have my scan end of week. I had one at 6weeks ish no hb. Then two at 7 with hb

cakesandphotos · 29/08/2017 08:01

I was insanely nervous all the way up to my 12 week scan. I had no reason to be. No bleeding and only light cramping.

I spoke to a GP friend of mine and she said by 12 weeks, if something has gone wrong, nearly everyone would have had a bleed so I think if you've got as far as you have with no bleeding, you're likely to be completely fine!

When you've ttc for ages, I think it's normal to worry. I was terrified of losing the baby and having to go back to the start considering how long it took us to conceive. Try to relax and remember that worrying won't help anything (slightly rich coming from a proper worry wart but there it is! Grin)

jazmynen3 · 29/08/2017 17:22

It's nerve wracking waiting for the scans. I was always nervous before each one.

Best to try to find a distraction and think about the scan as little as possible. Just try to keep busy. Xx
