Washing baby clothes

Hi everyone

Quick and random question, I read that you are supposed to wash baby clothes before they wear them. We usually do a standard wash at 30 degrees... should the one for the baby one be higher? Should you put in fabric softener or not? Most of it is second hand. Do we also need to wash muslins? And does anyone know how to wash snowsuits?

So many questions!

Thanks in advance!

I was all of DD stuff at 40 except for when she has been ill. Wash all things she will come into contact with (includes muslins). No you don't use fabric conditioner on baby clothes as it can irritate their delicate skin. Snow suits can be chucked into the washing machine. Remember babies can't go in car seats wearing snow suits.

I wouldn't bother washing the snow suit. Just the vests etc that will be next to their skin. I think a 30degree was will be fine as the clothes aren't dirty per se. I used a small amount of fabric conditioner.

I wash dd's clothes mainly at 30 but if spit up etc then at 40 degrees. Or higher if nappy leaks.
I use fairy non bio and fairy softener but use the extra rinse function on my machine to make sure they're properly rinsed.

I add napisan to the wash as it kills germs even if you wash at 30. useful for clothes covered in poo wee and sick!

if the snowsuit is second hand I would still wash it personally as you never know what's been in the loft!

I wash absolutely everything remotely connected with baby at 40 using Surcare and Napisan... but I'm a weirdo who quite enjoys washing. Blush
