I've had it before but several years ago. Can anyone recommend any over the counter cream that I can go and get? I'm 28 weeks pregnant.

You can use the cream and pessary (insert with finger). You can buy them in the supermarket as a pharmacist may not sell to you without a prescription due to the pregnancy

Sakura03 · 26/08/2017 16:19

Is that the canesten dementedpixie? Yeah the pharmacy wouldn't sell me anything until I had spoken to my gp...

Yes canesten or own brand equivalent. My local supermarkets sell it so no need to visit the chemist or gp. You can't take the oral tablet but the creams and pessaries are ok

HappyLollipop · 26/08/2017 16:27

Talk to your GP! I had thrush at 36 weeks pregnant and my GP wouldn't give me anything for it as I was too far along to use a pessary or take tablets so had to make do with just the cream.

dementedpixie · 26/08/2017 16:42

I don't see why you would have been to far along to use a treatment. Better for you not to have active thrush when giving birth as it can be passed to the baby

dementedpixie · 26/08/2017 16:43

Too far*

fizzicles · 26/08/2017 16:48

If you see the GP they will prescribe the cream/pessary as appropriate. Added bonus of free prescriptions so you won't have to pay

dementedpixie · 26/08/2017 16:50

Getting an appointment might be an issue so it depends how long OP is willing to put up with itch

Mummaofboys · 26/08/2017 16:57

Just go to where all the condoms etc. Are in supermarkets and pick a thrush medication you fancy off the shelf, they all do the same thing personally I'd just pick up the cheapest as they all contain the same working ingredients.

Jennypug · 26/08/2017 17:01

I was told the dosage for thrush treatment is different in pregnancy. I had pessaries but of a lower dosage over 6 nights. I got them on prescription from the nurse practitioner. I think I was of a similar gestation to you at the time.

filou87 · 26/08/2017 17:22

Please see your GP. The dosage is much lower in pregnancy as PP has stated. A nurse practioner can prescribe them and as you're pregnant you should be seen quickly, in theory.

dementedpixie · 26/08/2017 17:26

I got prescribed the normal one when I was pregnant. Single pessary and cream

filou87 · 26/08/2017 17:47

Demented pixie

I got prescribed the lower dose 6 night one by my GP who specifically said higher doses not used in pregnancy. Advice must vary GP to GP or maybe it depends on gestation.

Dangermouse80 · 26/08/2017 18:21

Use the lower 1% cream - you can buy this off the shelf. This cream can be used internally. 2% cream can be used externally.

ChickenBhuna · 26/08/2017 18:26

You can buy thrush cream on ebay. Delivery within 48hrs normally.

Sakura03 · 26/08/2017 18:35

Thank you allSmile. Ideally I'd like to speak to my gp but with it being the bank holiday that means waiting untilTuesday...
I'll pop to the supermarket and have a look.
