Early 7 week reassurance scan

Hi,

I'm booked in at about 7/8weeks pregnant for an early reassurance scan. Has anyone else had one of these, seen a heartbeat and had a healthy pregnancy? I'm so worried about MC that I'm hoping if we see a heartbeat we have a good chance of having a 'safe pregnancy.

Has anyone had a scan and been told sad news at this early stage without any symptoms?

Thank you in advance.

I've had both scenarios. With the first I had sad news and with the second saw a heart beat and have an 8 week old now. I had more symptoms the first time oddly enough. Good luck for your scan, hope it's good news. It's worth remembering the odds are in your favour 😊😊 x

You'll get answers on both sides, I'm afraid.

If you see a healthy heartbeat at 7 weeks, and you're under 35, you have very good odds of the pregnancy continuing to term: about 95%. However, if you are 40+ it is lower: about 89%. expectingscience.com/2015/08/26/lies-damned-lies-and-miscarriage-statistics/ And, of course, these are just statistics - some people fall into that 90+% everything is fine for and some don't.

I have had a scan at 7 weeks, seen a heartbeat and had everything go on to be fine, others will have seen a healthy heartbeat then but still have had a miscarriage, others will have had a MMC at 7 weeks and found the foetus had already stopped developing.

Bottom line: a heartbeat on a scan at 7/8 weeks is still a really good sign, but there are never any guarantees. If it would ease your anxiety to have a scan then, go for it.

I had a early reassurance scan at 6+6 and saw a heart beat. I would say go for it! Good luck xx

I had an early scan at 8 weeks in my first pregnancy and baby was measuring 5 without a heartbeat. Went back after a week (to NHS) and missed miscarriage was confirmed.

Second pregnancy had an early scan at 9 weeks and everything fine with heartbeat and wriggly baby. She is now 4 months old.

Good luck xx

Thank you for all of your posts. I'm hoping all is well at 7 weeks. I'll post an update in a few weeks time, my scan is on the 17th September x

We had an NHS scan at 7 weeks and all was fine, still fine at 28 weeks! There definitely isn't much to see (a heartbeat and something vaguely resembling a prawn!) but if it reassures you then it's worth it. Best of luck x
