Brown discharge at 8 wks

Just been to the loo and wiped, there was some brown discharge. Is that ok?
Things seem to say that bright red blood is the one to worry about.

Hope someone can reassure.

I also had this in all three pregnancies. Brown discharge was old blood probably from implantation bleed. All cleared up and went on to have good pregnancies.
Try not to worry. Flowers

Yes fine. i had quite a lot of this early on. MW kept saying it was fine as long as it wasn't bright red.

I had this, I was told at this stage it is due to the placenta implanting (although it won't take over fully until 10-12 weeks).

RatherBeRiding · 21/08/2017 17:28

Yes, had it with both pregnancies early on. Nothing ever came of it. Try not to worry I think it's fairly common.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 21/08/2017 17:30

Had it all through my pregnancy and all was fine but you need to tell your MW.

crazyhairdontcare · 21/08/2017 17:37

I wouldn't be concerned about brown discharge, unless accompanied by cramping/period pains.

Bright red yes, I would be more concerned.

IheartCaptainHolt · 21/08/2017 17:38

I had brown blood on and off for a couple of weeks at 8 weeks then red blood at 12 weeks. Rang the epu both times, they were not bothered at all about the brown and said if I could clean the red away by wiping then it wasn't enough to be worrying about it go on. DS2 is now 13 weeks old so all was fine

Bec1302 · 21/08/2017 17:43

Thankyou all. I had a look on netmums and a lot were saying miscarage. Think i will stick to this forum.

Coming from the not so positive side I had brown discharge which unfortunately did result in a miscarriage.

Bec1302 · 21/08/2017 17:59

Sorry to say that I also had brown discharge and it was a MMC. Hope everything's alright with you.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 21/08/2017 18:03

I wouldn't go down the route of restring again, it'll drive you mad. You're pregnant and seeing the midwife Wednesday, of leave it at that.

Try not to worry!Flowers

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 21/08/2017 18:04

** testing not restring!

BetterEatCheese · 21/08/2017 18:04

I had this for a whole week at 9 weeks and all was ok

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 21/08/2017 18:04

**I'd not of

Sorry- bloody phone!

Littlelouse · 21/08/2017 18:05

I had this too: now 28 weeks. First time pregnancy and I called my GP when it happened, who immediately sent me to EPU for a scan. Lots of unnecessary worry and if I had my time over again, I'd not bother! It went after a couple of days and no issues since.

bengalcat · 21/08/2017 18:06

Your midwife should arrange a scan for you

Bec1302 · 21/08/2017 20:08

I have a bit of cramping too. Im trying not to think the worst but its hard Sad

I've had this through pregnancies that both failed and went full term, I went to the gp who sent me to EPU for an early scan - even with my first one, may be worth doing tomorrow if you don't want to wait until Weds. Oh, the fear every time you go to the loo - it's so hard. Good luck Flowers

bengalcat · 21/08/2017 20:15

Ring your out of hours GP - they'll advise and refer you to an early pregnancy bit tomorrow for what will hopefully be peace of mind

bristolone · 21/08/2017 20:22

I had this with two pregnancies with bright red blood. I went to the hospital and they scanned me. All was okay. Go to the early pregnancy unit at your hospital.

milkyjo · 21/08/2017 21:45

I also had brown discharge which resulted in early miscarriage at 8 weeks. Phone your early pregnancy unit ASAP and they can advise. I also looked at forums and convinced myself it could be fine and then went to epu who scanned twice a week apart and confirmed mmc. Even if pregnancy was fine I wouldn't say it was a waste of time for reassurance.

user1499786242 · 21/08/2017 22:59

Had it in first pregnancy and was fine. Perfect pregnancy
Had it in second pregnancy and it was a miscarriage
But I also had bad stomach pains (like period pains and aches) and it turned to pinkish discharge after a few days then blood..
keep an eye on it lovely and mention it to the midwife! X

Holdbacktheriver · 22/08/2017 14:40

Hi op how are things today?

I'm a midwife and unfortunately the colour of the bleed means absolutely nothing. Brown does indicate an old bleed. But it's a bleed and all bleeds should be checked out.

Not all bleeds mean miscarriage. It's surprising how many women bleed in pregnancy and most go on to have a heathy pregnancy with a healthy baby at the end of it.

Please give your epu a quick call. They would much rather see you and put your mind at rest than have you sat at home worrying. Flowers
