Glucose Test - Lucozade Changed

strawberrysodasmiles · 21/08/2017 09:57

So I have my Glucose test next Monday at 29weeks but my midwife has just told me that finding the old bottles of lucozade is proving difficult since they changed the sugar levels!
I have until Wednesday to find one - or an alternative - but she hasn't told me what the alternatives are!!
Has anyone else had this problem and if so, what did you use instead?
Thanks in advance

I have a glucose tolerance test in October but think the hospital provides the orange sugary drink, no lucozade was mentioned to me think I would prefer that tho lol

Hotpinkangel19 · 21/08/2017 10:31

Don't they give you it there? My hospital letter doesn't mention taking my own???

usernamessuck123 · 21/08/2017 10:33

I had mine a month or so ago and I was given a clear sugary drink by the hospital - wasn't lucozade or anything similar - just a very standard watery cup of sugar

scaryclown · 21/08/2017 10:34

I think the skinny cans of lucozade are still glucose only. .the ones that are like the original red Bull can size.. i have a feeling the skinny cans allow a 'below the sugar tax' amount.

Oysterbabe · 21/08/2017 10:58

Our doctor supplies it since they changed the recipe. Also, why the fuck did they change the recipe? They were giving it out in town and banging on about it being half the sugar. Isn't sugar the whole point of Lucozade?!

AldiAisleOfCrap · 21/08/2017 11:01

Try Poundland or other similar shops 99p shop home and bargain etc for old stock.

BubbleAnimal · 21/08/2017 11:03

You have to take your own? The hospital provided it for me, a clear disgusting thing. Would have loved original lucozade.

Think I have a bottle in the cupboard if you're in Kent!

And yes, them changing it was bad for diabetics too. It's a good instant drink for a hypo. Or was.

icclemunchy · 21/08/2017 11:24

This sugar tax park sucks for diabetics. Multipack ribena was my go to hypo cure. Small enough to fit in my bag perfect amount of sugar. Nope can't get it anymore

strawberrysodasmiles · 21/08/2017 11:33

Thanks for all your replies!
They sent me a letter with photos of the back of the bottles and saying what I need to look for, my hospital don't provide anything which is frustrating especially if other hospitals do!
I'll keep my eyes pealed though and have to phone them to find out what I do instead I guess!? 👎🏽
I thought the whole point in lucozade was the sugar too - ridiculous!

Are you in the UK?? I can't believe they don't provide the drink...

AldiAisleOfCrap · 21/08/2017 11:44

If you ring all the budget shops and ask they should look on the label for you.

scaryclown · 21/08/2017 11:46

It is silly.. Energy drinks without sugar is like selling warm ice cubes

EEandEmakes3 · 21/08/2017 11:48

I had my test last week and was given a thick, gloopy orange drink. It's the third time I've had the test and I've never been told to bring my own drink, very weird.

BubbleAnimal · 21/08/2017 12:54

@icclemunchy we buy the tiny cans of full sugar coke from the mixer aisle now. The kind we used to have in the 80s from woolies.

MollyoftheFolly · 21/08/2017 13:00

I had to find my own old recipe Lucozade too, I had my test in June. I found a bottle in a little village shop (I live rurally!), I guess smaller corner shops etc have less turnover of stock. It is ridiculous we have to stress about finding it, when they know it's been discontinued. I had to drink nearly the full 500ml bottle fairly quickly, yuck.

laketaupo · 21/08/2017 13:21

I'm not having this test this time (haven't been told about it anyway) but did have it with DS 2 years ago and it was horrible to glug down the lucozade
Confused
