Preeclampsia at 37 weeks - help?

Hi there never posted before so please bare with me if I'm not down with all the lingo Grin

Basically I was taken into the hospital over the weekend due to severe swelling and migraines.
The doctors tested urine and blood both weren't looking great and my blood pressure was very high - and it looked like my kidneys were under a bit of stress.
The next day they diagnosed me with early pre eclampsia.
The doctor did a cervical exam to check how soft the neck of my womb was etc and she could feel the babies head! They sent me home for two night and I'm back in today for more tests

What are the chances of them inducing me ? I'm now 37 + 1 ? Also is there anyway I can prompt them to induce me ? I'm worried sick about my babies health and would rather they just got him out before things get worse ?

Thank you in advance ! Smile

I'm slightly surprised they sent you home with all of that TBH! Did they manage to lower your BP first?

From my experience, they will probably keep you in hospital now for a few days - or at least have you in daily for monitoring - and, should your BP remain very high & your BT results (that tell them about your kidneys etc.) remain abnormal, then they will probably induce.

I was induced with all three of my DCs and with DS1 it was at 37 weeks with pre-eclampsia. I had been in hospital for two weeks at that point though & started to deteriorate pretty quickly. My consultant had been trying to get me to 38 weeks ideally.

Good luck OP. If you are induced try not to worry, I know I have nothing to compare it to but honestly it wasn't the nightmare people say it always is Flowers.

Thank you so much for your reply !

They managed to lower my blood pressure but apart from that all my other tests (blood , urine etc) were pretty much the same

I'll try not to worry I just feel more at ease in hospital when I know I'm being constantly monitored and I can keep an eye on everything !

Just hope I'm not stressing my baby out too much ! Confused

Bless you. Hope it goes well today. I think you need to press to speak to an actual doctor today especially if they try and send you home again. Suspect if everything is stable they'll want to try and keep baby put for a few more days.

I was induced at 36 weeks with pe. I also had a sweep which was the most painful thing ever since found out the midwife queried with the doctor why it was even attempted! Ultimately my induction failed as baby started getting oxygen deprived and i ended up with an emergency c-section. 37 weeks is counted as full term so i'd think you would be induced very soon. Hope all goes smoothly for you.

Thank you for your well wishes Grin
I'm going to have to stand up for myself I don't think they've explained it very well to me at all and I just keep worrying (which can't be good for my blood pressure!)

Thank you again x

As you are past 37 weeks I would imagine they would look to induce you shortly. Are you having daily BP/urine checks?

Also if your symptoms change or worsen (headaches with aura, swelling) then phone the maternity unit asap and speak to a midwife.
Good luck Flowers

MiaD13 · 21/08/2017 08:21

I'm not having daily checks

I let out early Saturday morning so it's been like a day and a half since I've had any tests.

I hope I'm induced to be honest - heard so many horror stories about it but just want baby to be okay ! (As far as I'm aware he was golden it was more my health that was the concern )

Thanks for your reply ! X

I had PE at 31 weeks so a different situation to you. It got worse very quickly though. Call labour ward if you're concerned at all. They'd rather see you unnecessarily than have you sat at home fretting. Hope all is ok.

MiaD13 · 21/08/2017 08:31

Thank you ! I'm just terrible for overthinking there's nothing more that's happened to prompt my worry

Thanks so much for your wishes x

Well even if you're just not feeling quite right call them. High BP presents in funny ways and sometimes not at all so trust your instincts. 37 weeks is a great gestation so baby doesn't need to wait any longer if you're not well.

MiaD13 · 21/08/2017 08:50

The doctor says she thinks I could've went into labour on my own because of how low baby is but so far I don't think I'm having any symptoms ?

I have had a tight chest last night and this morning as if I'm a little breathless but I don't know if it's just nerves , do you think this is something I should call about ?
Also shooting pains and pressure in my vagina ? Tmi sorry x

Just call them. Nerves or not, tight chest and breathlessness is not good for anyone. Flowers

Sairelou · 21/08/2017 09:54

Call the unit, now!

LBOCS2 · 21/08/2017 10:00

Definitely call the unit.

I developed pre-eclampsia in my first pregnancy at around 36 weeks. They kept monitoring me 48hourly and gave me blood pressure tablets and I got to 38+1, at which point they decided that my condition was still deteriorating so I was induced. I had DD1 after 12hrs of a manageable labour, she was 7lb 3oz and we were both absolutely fine afterwards.

I would suggest making sure you have your birth bag with you for every trip to the hospital though, because things can change quite quickly and they may decide to get you in without any warning!

MiaD13 · 21/08/2017 10:17

Thanks guys for all your help
My appointment is in annhour or so they just called me to confirm

Definitely taking the bags with us incase as me and partner don't drive so it's hassle going to and from hospital

Thank you all so so much

Breathlessness was a sign my pre e was getting much worse and I was on oxygen until baby arrived in the end. Good luck at appointment today and I hope you have your baby soon. Smile

Frazzled2207 · 21/08/2017 13:01

Good luck. Hopefully they'll keep a close eye on your or get an induction started or both.

MiaD13 · 22/08/2017 06:59

Good luck OP. I was induced with my second because of very high BP. Baby delivered very quickly so hope it's quick and straightforward for you too. Remember to BREATHE!
