really unpleasant groin/ligament/ and internal pain at 21 weeks

I'm 21 weeks with my second child and have been experiencing bad groin/ligament pain for about a month. It's been coming and going, but it's getting worse and doesn't seem to have gone at all for a few days now. Sometimes standing up - particularly from a low seat is agony, as is rolling over. Walking any distance hurts and seems to make the pain worse too. Past few days have taken the pain to a new level and (sorry if this is TMI) I have internal throbbing pain similar but definitely not the same as cystitis in that its a throbbing tight pain similar to the pain you get when you have a full bladder but I'm fairly sure its coming from somewhere else (does any of this make sense?). Anyone else experienced similar in pregnancy? I was really hoping this would just sort itself out but I reckon I'll have to see a GP next week - I know the groin/ligament thing is very common but I've not heard of or experienced this internal pain before.

What I had with second baby sounds very similar: couldn't walk far due to acute pains in groins, turning over painful and it felt like my whole uterus was going to drop out! Also, I got pins and needle sensations in groins and thighs and towards the end, had stabbing pains low down which felt like acute wind stretching from my bottom rihgt up into my womb (TMI also!). I spoke to the midwife who said it was all fine and quite normal so I would mention it to your GP/midwife next week - you can get different maternity support belts for different complaints so they might be able to give you an under the bump one or something to support your ligaments more. It did used to frighten me theough as the pains were so sharp sometimes, especially when the baby was lying in a certain position.

From the description you give of when the pain comes on (standing from sitting, rolling over) it sounds very much like SPD.

If you search the archives on here you'll find loads of info. Read some peoples descriptions of it and see if it fits, if so you'll find some handy tips on easing it a bit.

I had internal pain with my 2nd, at one point it was so painful I thought I was miscarrying. The midwife told me that it's quite common with second pregnancies, something to do with the internal muscles shrinking back after the birth of the first and stretching again. I never had the SPD thing but I know someone who has and she literally couldn't get out of bed at one point, it did ease off tho'

Spent the weekend mostly on the sofa and saw an osteopath this afternoon. She discovered that the muscles in my inner thigh were very severely contracted - she said its the sort of thing you might see if someone had been horseriding every day (?!) She reckoned there was no point doing anything on my pelvis until this was sorted as these muscles run up into the pelvis and could be causing the problem anyway. Upshot was she spent over half an hour deep massaging them (Ouch!!!) and to be honest I do feel much better. I managed to walk home without really waddling at all for the first time in weeks. Do feel quite achey from the massage mind you. Seeing her again next week for further investigation ...
