Hi all,

This is my 2nd pregnancy, due to my high bmi I am having extra growth scans. I had my first one yesterday at 29 weeks and baby is already measuring 3lb 14oz!!
I had growth scans with my daughter too, although there were no concerns with her growth and she was born a healthy 7lbs 7oz.

Does anyone have any experience of this or know how accurate these measurements are?

TIA Smile

Its not an exact science, my growth scan was 1/²lb off. What is the percentile measurement? My LG was measuring 95th percentile on scans and was born at 37.5 weeks weighing 8lb 11oz.

Just to add at that weight I had a 6hr labour with gas and air so a bigger baby didn't mean a difficult labour.

I had numerous issues in my first pregnancy and had growth scans , baby was measuring big and was eventually born at 40+2 and weighed 10lb 4oz . I had an ELCS with my second and they said she was going to be big as well and she was only 7lb 13oz - I'm not sure they know what they are talking about .

I was measuring big, to the point I had several growth scans and was tested for gestational diabetes.
I was told my baby would be big but when she was born was 7lb 5 (2 weeks early) but still an average size.

They're really not very accurate. Mine measured big, 9lb ish. Was actually 11lb.

I know one who was taken in for bed rest as baby was small and born full term 10lb 2oz.

I also know someone whose baby was measuring 10lb and it was around the 8lb mark.

It's very inaccurate. I actually think they get a better idea having a 'feel' as you get bigger. When I was admitted the Consultant examined my stomach and sort of stopped dead and looked a bit nervous. Then said 'er - that's a REALLY good sized baby in there...'

Thanks everyone, I feel a bit better now, knowing they're not always accurate!

Katescurios he is in the 97th centile? I have another growth scan at 33 weeks, will be interesting to see what they say then. Good to hear you had a straightforward birth though!

Shireslass they have booked me in for a GTT to test for gestational diabetes too, as his abdomen measured at 34 weeks and apparently this is a sign of GD.

I'm just a bit concerned that the birth will be horrendous if he is as big as they say he is!
